TW BRAGA GIRLS

TW BRAGA GIRLS

We are very excited to add a girls section at TW Braga!

It was terrific to welcome 20 girls along to our first session.  We will be entering teams into the IFA Summer Festivals operating from May to August. After that the younger girls teams will play in the IFA Small Sided Games program. Our older girls teams will look to play in the South Belfast Girls league.

The other benefit is we can also play girls in our boys teams a year down. Hannah has played in our 2004 boys team for the past 2 years & is now seeing the real benefits now playing in a girls only team.

For more information contact Tim Wareing on 07740120788. All girls welcome regardless of age or ability.

FRAME FOOTBALL HOPING TO GET OFF TO A FLYER

FRAME FOOTBALL HOPING TO GET OFF TO A FLYER

Local youth football club, TW Braga, are delivering the first Frame Football Section in Northern Ireland.  Saturday 23 January will see the first meeting of the Belfast based club. This will take place at Loughside Recreation Centre from 1-2pm.

Frame Football was first launched in England in 2013 and provides the opportunity for children who are unable to walk unaided but do not require a wheelchair to play football. Many of these children use a walker style frame for mobility. These children cannot play in mainstream football because of the safety regulations. Frame Football brings them together to play an adapted game that suits their needs.

The IFA believe in creating opportunities for those with a disability to play the beautiful game. Let Them Play is the strapline of the new Youth Strategy and this Frame Football Programme will enable those children to play the game.

DJ and Let Them Play supporter, Colin Murray, recently raised over £5,000 for the establishment and development of Frame Football in Northern Ireland through the ‘101 Mankini’s’ walk on Boxing Day.

This money will be spent initially on starting a pilot Frame Football club in Belfast in partnership with TW Braga. In particular, it will go towards facilities, coaching fees, promotion within the disability sector and training kit for players.

Irish FA Development Manager for Disability Football, Alan Crooks, is very positive about this new initiative in Northern Ireland. He commented, “Frame Football is a great example of the how ‘Let Them Play’ is having a positive impact on the kids in Northern Ireland. We hope that with the awareness raised and support from Colin Murray that Frame Football will take off in our wee country.”

TW Braga Academy Director, Tim Wareing, added, 'We are so grateful to Colin Murray for his fantastic achievement of raising valuable funds & to everyone who donated.  This will insure Frame Football kicks off strong in Northern Ireland.  It's a wonderful opportunity to get everyone involved in the game.  I would like to thank Richard Seedhouse of Frame Football for letting us get involved with his exciting project that kicked off in Coventry.  I've enjoyed visiting & seeing Frame Football in operation at St. George's Park & appreciate the training & support the IFA have given TW Braga.  We all can't wait to get kicked off on 23 January!'

It is anticipated that an additional two clubs in Armagh and Coleraine will be in operation by end 2016. Once these clubs are both up and running it will enable organisers to hold matches, competitions and festival days involving the three clubs.

THE SECRETS TO DEVELOPING ELITE YOUTH FOOTBALL PLAYERS

THE SECRETS TO DEVELOPING ELITE YOUTH FOOTBALL PLAYERS

Tim Wareing has released his third book through his publisher titled, 'The Secrets to Developing ELITE Youth Football Players.'  Copies are available in paperback or e-book!  You can order online by clicking here.

Overview of 'The Secrets to Developing ELITE Youth Football Players.'...

Tim Wareing is a highly sought after coach. With over 20 years coaching experience and having achieved the prestigious UEFA European 'A' Licence at the age of 24, his methods and coaching philosophy are known and respected worldwide. He has delivered clinics in Ireland, England, Europe and USA along with his previous two books selling in over 30 different countries.

Tim spent six years at Irish Premier League side, Lisburn Distillery. He held roles as Reserve Team Manager and under 18 Manager. He played his part in developing Youth International Players and players for the first team, before setting up a very successful Academy for the Club.

As opinions changed in the direction the Academy was going, Tim stood down from his role and decided to take a sabbatical. He used the time to recharge his batteries and re-educate himself, visiting some of the top European Clubs, including FC Barcelona, SC Braga, Ajax and PSV Eindhoven, where he studied and exchanged ideas in youth development.

It was in Holland that he met with a top Portuguese Coach, Hugo Vicente, and the pair got talking about youth development. They shared similar philosophies and it was on this trip that two years later would see a new project launch in Northern Ireland.

The frustrations that Wareing had at his previous club are common across Northern Ireland. A lack of contact time with players, unqualified coaches, out dated methods and little to none specialist coaches and staff offer a limited opportunity for players to develop.

Re-energised he began to set up a very special project that would change the way youth football was delivered in Northern Ireland. Young players would come in and achieve up to 10 hours of contact time per week. Not only would they have access to Wareing but also a special talented team of experts. This would include games related training, match analysis, a conditioning coach, goalkeeper coach, education officer and pastoral care.

Players would come from all different backgrounds. Many arrived as broken players who had been told they weren't good enough, while others simply weren't receiving the correct education on and off the field to develop. Wareing would start to create better players, better people, using a new approach that was player and child centred. From conception to champions in 22 months attracted much interest from the National press and Irish Football Association. TW Braga would share their journey on their You Tube channel, @twsportsgroup, to date it has over 640,000 video views! These are the sessions that Tim Wareing used to help develop the complete player, that would improve each individual technically, tactically, physically and psychologically. This book has been specifically designed, so that each session is simple to follow, yet includes the coaching points that Tim offers to his players. These are all of Tim's preferred sessions that he has gathered on his coaching journey through his own experience and while visiting professional clubs across Europe.

'The Secrets to Developing ELITE Youth Football Players' will aid in developing your group of players, whilst having them enjoy their training!

What people think about Tim Wareing...

'One always takes pleasure in following the career and achievements of those one meets and works with on coaching programmes. It gives me particular pleasure to add to the congratulations being extended to Tim Wareing on the publication of his latest book.

He has huge respect in the Northern Ireland football community and further afield. He has fulfilled the expectations people had of him. Expertise, vision and hard work always get results.'

Jack Gallagher, FIFA Coaching Instructor and FIFA Technical Advisor 1979-2007

'Tim Wareing started the TW Sports Academy 10 years ago.

Just 24 at the time, Tim felt there was restricted youth development in Northern Ireland and felt passionately about doing something about it.

Encouraged and supported by his dad to complete his coaching badges, he worked his way up to UEFA European 'A' Licence level.

For six years he coached the Under 18's and Academy players at Lisburn Distillery, when his 'mentor' Paul Kirk was manager of the Ballyskeagh outfit.

While thrilled to be working with the kids, Tim was frustrated by the lack of contact time with the players, believing while he was making progress he could make an even bigger impact with more training sessions.

And so he decided to fully focus on taking his own Academy to a different level.
The acorn that begun with just himself coaching youngsters in the Cregagh area in Belfast, is fast becoming a big oak tree. Now, aided by sponsors Subway, he operates province-wide, employs 20 other qualified coaches and his Academy coaches up to 700 children per week ranging from the age of two to fifteen.

The first to bring a 'Toddler Soccer programme' to Northern Ireland, he has now written this third book. Tim's previous books on coaching youngsters sold in 30 countries. Also he is never afraid to post videos of training sessions on You Tube for the world to see.

He is an engaging character with an excellent pedigree and he coaches kids in the right way. I wish him well going forward.'

Steven Beacom is the Belfast Telegraph Sports Editor

'It is vitally important that children are fully developed as individual players as well as team players. On a recent visit to Northern Ireland I observed the excellent work carried out by the TWSports.Org Group in relation to not only team development but also the individual development coaching given.'

Martien Pennings, Coach PSV Eindhoven (Holland)

'What the TWSports.Org Group is doing is exceptional, it is different from what anyone else in Northern Ireland is doing, you try to bring the kids together at similar levels and start to work on that. At TWAcademy.Org it is all football related and child centered unlike other coaching which focuses on the physical aspect and not the talent.'

Bert-Jan (BJ) Heijmans, Director Dutch UK Football School

'During my time at Distillery FC, I had the privilege of working alongside Tim in his capacity as Director of Youth Football, a position that Tim embraced with his great enthusiasm and technical ability as a first class coach.

During our time together, I watched numerous boys and girls develop, from grass roots players at a young age, to elite athletes, players, and well rounded individuals.

Testimony to Tim’s work is recognised in just some of the players who developed through that structure and under his guidance; Jack Chambers now at West Brom., Josh Tipping now at Chesterfield, Nathan Kerr now at Stevenage and Luke Fisher now at Fleetwood.

Carry on the good work Tim, with your infectious enthusiasm dedication and knowledge of all aspects of the game. Good luck in the future, I know many more will benefit from having worked with you.'

Paul Kirk, UEFA Pro Licence Coach. Former Manager of Premier League side, Lisburn Distillery

"Here at Elite, we are extremely pleased with the professionalism and authenticity TW Academy has offered us over the past two years while conducting our soccer summer clinics in USA. Coach Tim and his team of coaches are highly knowledgeable and bring excitement to the field! The kids are thrilled and have smiles on their faces while learning the game of soccer." I trust coach Tim and the work he has to share with others. This is a great book to acquire soccer knowledge in creating the Elite soccer player. Apply these principles in this book and your players will improve and so will you as a coach."

Javier Perez, Founder and Executive Director of Elite Soccer Training

'I would like to congratulate Tim on this, his new book, and highly recommend it.

I first met Tim on a study trip in Holland, and since then he has changed very little. He is constantly searching for inspiration, knowledge, competence and different views and perspectives on training methods and philosophies.

He has made regular visits to other clubs in several countries, increasing his network of coaches and many other people involved in football, in order to share ideas about the game, and above all, about youth development. I feel that this book is a consequence of his dedication. It is basically his manual, sharing the good practices he has used throughout the years in his successful projects, and I think that this book can be used as an inspirational tool for all coaches at any level of the game.'

Hugo Vicente

Currently working on a new project at Follo FK, Norway. Formerly the SC Braga Academy Director, SL Benfica Youth Coach, Coerver Coaching Portugal Director, also involved in other clubs. BELFAST TELEGRAPH FEATURE

BELFAST TELEGRAPH FEATURE

This is the story of Lisburn League youth side TW Braga. The TW stands for Tim Wareing, founder of the club and a football academy that offers coaching schemes for children, from toddlers to teenagers.

The Braga comes from the Portuguese team of the same name, with whom Belfast man Tim has formed a close bond after becoming friends with their assistant Academy director Hugo Vicente.

Meeting on a coaching course in Holland, the pair realised they shared the same ideas about how kids should be coached and why enjoyment and education is key.

Inspired by the conversations, 36-year-old Wareing decided to launch a new Belfast-based team.

TW Braga's tale began just two years ago in the Lisburn League at U12 level in the 2013-14 season. Finding their feet, in more ways than one, the boys finished fifth in their first campaign and reached the semi-final of the Foyle Cup tournament.

A promising start but things were to get a whole lot better in the season just past when the TW Braga kids (now U13) won the Lisburn League title.

Coming top of the class in just their second campaign was impressive enough, but doing it by playing an entertaining and open brand of football made it that bit more special for coach Wareing and the kids themselves.

"It took a little time to get my messages across to the boys because the kids came from different backgrounds and different clubs with different ideas," admitted Tim.

"We wanted them to get on the ball and be creative rather than just get rid of it and as time went by, games that we were losing in the first year we would win. The team gained confidence from that and went from strength to strength. It was great to see them want to get on the ball and play good football. That was important to me."

Winning the title was the icing on the cake, but it's the other ingredients thrown in that make TW Braga's success such a tasty and compelling mix with Wareing keen to give the kids an insight into the professional game if they are good enough or have ambitions in the future of going that far.

He explained: "The kids train on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday and also have the option to attend additional sessions and receive one-on-one coaching, helping them to develop a lot quicker and improve them technically and tactically. We also have classroom sessions which include match analysis on video.

"We like to strike a happy balance so we are not taking too much out of their lives and asking too much of parents, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out if you have more contact time with the kids, with good coaching they are going to become better players."

Wareing also wants the children to become more rounded individuals and to that end his backroom team includes a conditioning coach, education officer and pastoral carer and over the past 18 months the kids have been taught basic first aid, had a work shop on nutrition and even a talk on money matters from Ulster Bank.

In the future he intends to hold classes on internet safety plus awareness on alcohol and drugs. "For us, we have a slogan about creating better players and better people," said Tim, who is married with four children.

"Realistically there will only be a small percentage of kids that actually make it through to the professional game but if we can do things that will help them with their schooling and in work later in their lives, that is rewarding for everyone.

"I am a stickler for manners at the club. I want to see the kids with TW Braga behave in the right way.

"The environment is professional yet relaxed so the players can express themselves. On a Saturday we want kids to have the freedom of play and we encourage them to write down their thoughts and how they feel they could improve."

Irish League clubs have already come hunting for the Braga players, which is a compliment to what has been achieved at the club to date.

Wareing started his TW Sports Academy 10 years ago.

"In my eyes there was restricted youth development in this country and I felt passionately about doing something about it," he recalled.

Encouraged and financed by his dad to complete his coaching badges, Tim was just 24 by the time he had worked his way up to A License level.

For six years he coached the Under-18s and Academy players at Lisburn Distillery, when his 'mentor' Paul Kirk was manager of the Ballyskeagh.

While thrilled to be working with the kids, Wareing was frustrated by the lack of contact time with the players, believing while he was making progress he could make an even bigger impact with more training sessions.

And so he decided to fully focus on taking his own Academy to a different level.

The acorn that began with just himself coaching youngsters in the Cregagh area in Belfast is fast becoming a big oak tree. Now, aided by sponsors Subway, he operates province-wide, employs 30 other qualified coaches and his Academy coaches up to 600 children per week ranging from the age of two to 15.

The first to bring a 'Toddler Soccer programme' to Northern Ireland, he wrote a book about it which has sold in 30 countries and he is never afraid to post videos of training sessions on YouTube for the world to see.

The TW Academy continues to grow.

And the next step for TW Braga? His reply: "We are losing some players to other clubs which is a shame but it shows we're doing things right. It also represents a challenge to recruit new players and coach them so that they can fulfil their potential."

TW BRAGA

TW BRAGA

18 months ago a very exciting project was started.  Tim Wareing met with his good friend Hugo Vicente who was the assistant Academy Director at Portuguese professional side, SC Braga.  It was on the back of that conversation that something very exciting would be launched in Northern Ireland!

TW Braga kicked off last season in the Lisburn League.  After only forming in the middle of June 2013 they were ready to kick off at the start of the 2013/2014 season in the Lisburn League at U12 level.  They would finish the season in the top 5 & go on to finish 3rd in the Foyle Cup...a disallowed goal & narrow 1-0 defeat in the semi against Co. Cavan & Monaghan only kept them from the final!  They would be respected by the brand of football they would play.

This week is very exciting as not only do they sit 2 points off the top of the table (now U13) but have reached the semi final of the shield.  They play Lisburn Youth this Saturday.  They have also progressed to the next round of the NIBFA Cup after putting out last years runners up, Loughgall.

What is different at Braga that is not present in many other clubs?  The main thing Academy Director & UEFA A Licence coach, Tim Wareing, wanted to tackle was the contact time.  The 2002's will train Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday & play Saturday.  The players also have the option to attend additional sessions throughout the TW program.  Many of the players also receive 1-on-1 coaching & small group coaching.  This additional contact time is developing them a lot quicker & improving them technically & tactically.

Tim also has built a team of experts around him to support his players & parents.  This includes a conditioning coach, keeper coach, education officer, pastoral carer & of course all coaches are hand picked to insure they are most suitable for each age group.

The environment is professional but relaxed so the players can express themselves.  They learn during the week within the sessions & on a Thursday a class room session that includes match analysis.  So come a Saturday they have the freedom to play.

TW Braga also focus on life skills.  Over the past 18 months the children have been taught basic first aid, had a work shop on nutrition & a talk on Money Matters from the Ulster Bank.  Future life skills will include web safety & awareness on drink & drugs.

The club would not be as successful it it wasn't for the ongoing support from it's sponsors SUBWAY & Podium 4 Sport.  Likewise the dedication & support they receive from the parents & players.  The icing on the cake come from a top team of coaches & staff.

Currently TW Braga have teams for 2002-2006 children.  If you would like more information or request a trial contact Tim on; 07740120788 or by email.

CPD STAFF TRIP TO HOLLAND

CPD STAFF TRIP TO HOLLAND

Tim Wareing & 3 other TW Sports coaches will travel to Holland on Sunday & spend just under a week visiting Ajax & PSV Eindhoven on club visits.  This is part of maintaining their coaching licence CPD (Continual Professional Development) & sharing ideas.

They will meet with the Ajax Youth Academy Consultant & watch training sessions from the youth academy through to the seniors.  Tim & the team will also be in attendance of the UEFA Champions League game.  On the Thursday they will spend a full day with PSV Eindhoven including their European game at the Phillips Stadium that evening.

To follow their journey make sure you connect with @twsportsgroup on Facebook, Twitter & You Tube!

*** PLEASE PRE BOOK YOUR CHILD'S PLACE NOW!!! ***

2015 is a very special year for TW Sports as we celebrate our 10th birthday!  Each season we keep adding even more opportunities for your child.  This summer we have seen players that started with us make their International debut for Northern Ireland U16's - 3 players!  Also we had even more involved with County Antrim & Down at the Milk Cup.  It was very pleasing to see my old Lisburn Distillery captain, Nathan Kerr, sign for Stevenage.  Also to my first 1-on-1 student, Luke Fisher, sign for Fleetwood.

We continue to educate our coaches & continue to travel around Europe to insure we bring the most innovative training to children in Northern Ireland.  Director of TWSports.Org, Tim Wareing, continues to sell his books (Toddler Soccer & 1-on-1 Coaching) throughout the world.  His books have sold in over 30 different countries along with giants Amazon, Waterstones, WH Smith & SoccerTutor.com all selling the books.

Last season we also delivered an elite coaching week to children in Hobbs, New Mexico (USA) & will return in 2015.  We also have the opportunity to deliver our program in Australia.

Our training sessions that we share on our You Tube channel have received close to 450,000 video views!  Our #insideTW series has been very popular.  This follows the journey of our youth set up in Northern Ireland led by Tim.  Linking with Portuguese giants, SC Braga, we enter teams from U13 to U11 in the Lisburn League. We will continue to recruit as well as start to plan small sided teams for 7-10 year olds.

What is unique is our players will receive up to 5 sessions per week.  Players will also have access to quality experts including ex Liverpool FC conditioning coach, teacher support, pastoral care & match analysis.  You can watch #insideTW by clicking here.

Inside just one year we have seen terrific performances & a high development in each individual.  3 players have been recruited for the Nottingham Forest Academy from our 2002 group.  We finished the top team from Northern Ireland in the Foyle Cup last month - incredible!

We are grateful for the superb support we receive from our sponsors SUBWAY & Podium 4 Sport.  It is very refreshing in this day & age to see two massive companies to support youth football.

This season we can offer your child Toddler Soccer, Mini Soccer, Elite Coaching, TW Braga, Lads & Dads & also opportunity to travel to pro clubs.  We cater for all the family from the age of 2 to 72!

You can register now by clicking here for Toddler Soccer or here for Mini Soccer.  You can contact Tim Wareing on, 07740120788, or by email for any other queries.  Don't forget about our 1-on-1 Coaching we offer along with club training, birthday parties & coaching in nurseries & schools.

Many Council's have put our rental rate up by 3 times the price compared to last season.  Their response is to tell me to put my rates up as well.  I won't do that as having a family myself I know how difficult it is.

Unfortunately we receive no funding or support so this will put us under a lot of pressure.  If everyone can help spread the word about our classes.  Ask a friend, school friend or family member along to the same class your child attends.  Having an extra 3 or 4 members attend each venue will insure we can continue certain centres.

With the dark nights in children are restricted in achieving the Government's recommended daily exercise of 1 hour.  In fact as little as 2% of girls & 3% of boys are achieving this!  TWSports.Org & ToddlerSoccer.Org continues to operate their award winning programme throughout the country all year.  Remember we have centres operating every day & in every county!

Our entire Toddler Soccer programme takes place indoors & the majority of our Mini Soccer sessions take place indoors as well so don't worry what the weather is doing!  You can view our full programme by clicking here for Toddler Soccer or here for Mini Soccer.

To register or request more information please contact Tim by phone, 07740120788, or by email.

It has been such an exciting year for us.  Along with Toddler & Mini Soccer we operate Elite training @ TWAcademy.Org.  This is additional elite training for players from any club.  We have had players from boys clubs as well as Irish league clubs train with us this season.  We have also linked with Braga to create TW Braga.

This season we have launched with an U12 team (players born 2002) that compete in the Lisburn League.  We are now extending the age groups ahead of the new season & you can get your child involved now by contacting us.  This is much more than a football club.  Our players have access to 5 sessions per week.  They receive match analysis as well as a teacher that has supported & assisted them during GL & AQE transfer tests.  We also have a Pastoral Carer as well as a conditioning coach that used to work at Liverpool FC.

We organise many activities for the players which has included basic first aid training to a clinic on sports psychology from leading expert Dan Abraham.  Here is a little video of what we have achieved in 6 months of bringing these boys together in a professional, enjoyable, positive environment.  We share with you some funnies, great skills, team play & goals - click here.

Want to get your child involved?  Ring or text Coach Tim now on; 07740120788.

NEW SEASON & EVEN MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUR CHILD!

NEW SEASON & EVEN MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUR CHILD!

For the 4th year in a row we have frozen our prices to insure your child can continue to enjoy our football.  Also for the first time we are offering a weekly pass of £10 that allows your child to receive unlimited football with us!

*** PLEASE PRE BOOK YOUR CHILD'S PLACE NOW!!! ***

Each season we keep adding even more opportunities for your child.  This summer we have seen players that started with us make their International debut for Northern Ireland U16's - 3 players!  Also we had even more involved with County Antrim & Down at the Milk Cup.

Our training sessions that we share on our You Tube channel have received close to 300,000 video views!  Our new #insideTW series has been very popular.  This follows the journey of a new youth set up in Northern Ireland led by Tim.  Linking with Portuguese giants, SC Braga, we enter our first 11 aside team into the Lisburn League.  TW Braga U12 is the first of many teams.  We will provide teams from 7 & 8 year old above.

What is unique is our players will receive up to 5 sessions per week.  Players will also have access to quality experts including ex Liverpool FC conditioning coach, teacher support, pastoral care & match analysis.  You can watch #insideTW by clicking here.

WE ARE LEADING THE WAY IN YOUTH DEVELOPMENT...

WE ARE LEADING THE WAY IN YOUTH DEVELOPMENT...

We are very excited to launch teams for children ahead of the new season.  We are linking with a top European Club & will offer up to 5 sessions per week along with education support!

Subway & Nike have supplied our playing kits.  We will enter an 11 aside team into the Lisburn League for U12's (born 2002) along with a 9 aside team (2003/2004) & a 7 aside team (2005/2006) in the small sided leagues.  On top of our Toddler & Mini Soccer programme we will operate an internal 4 v 4 small sided games for children outside of the above age groups.  Our elite academy will still offer additional elite training for all up to & including 18.

As ex Academy Director of Lisburn Distillery my frustration was the lack of contact time we have with our kids.  That has never changed in youth football in Northern Ireland & it is time we evolved & offered our children a better opportunity to develop as young elite players.  The only thing increasing is the amount of talents returning from pro clubs while players going over is decreasing.  That trend will continue unless we offer our children a similar experience to what children receive in England & the rest of Europe.

Our players will receive 2 sessions per week exclusive with their team coach along with being able to attend unlimited training at our other elite centres.  This will offer up to 5 sessions per week.  We will also be providing a qualified teacher to support player's education & study timetables.  Leading experts will also be brought in for conditioning, psychology, keeper training, martial arts & match analysis.  This is an opportunity & experience that no one else can offer.

For more details contact Academy Director, Tim Wareing on; 07740120788 or email.

NEW SEASON - MORE OPPORTUNITIES

NEW SEASON - MORE OPPORTUNITIES

TWSports.Org sent out a text message to all parents announcing the new season & had 100 confirmed applications within 30 minutes!  One of our centres in Bangor is nearly full!  Honestly if you want to secure your place please act now!

We are now going into our 8th year of business & continue to offer the best opportunities for ALL local children.  This time 2 years ago I took my academy to play PSV Eindhoven in Holland.  This time last year we played Fulham.  We have also operated pro clinics in Belfast for children & coaches.  Coaches that have run these courses on our behalf include Valencia, Braga & Stoke City.

In fact we played Braga in April & drew 1-1 before we travelled on a Premiership experience with 3 boys who got to play for Stoke City's Development squad.  Not forgetting our trip to Manchester United where our young Toddler Soccer footballer, Carson, got to play at their training ground, Carrington.

Along with pro club visits & clinics operated in Northern Ireland we don't forget about the most important factor.  That simply is to offer a positive experience with the most forward thinking development programme for local children.

Our programme caters for both boys & girls aged from 2-18!  Toddler Soccer introduces children to football through fun games & story telling before they progress to Mini Soccer.  It is then at this stage they have the opportunity to get involved with our Academy.  This offers additional elite training for all children that also play at Irish league clubs & boys clubs.

To register you can complete the application & pay online simply & securely.  Just click the following link.  If you prefer we can send you an application by email.  You print it off, complete it & return with payment to guarantee your place.  We advise everyone to move now as many centres already are starting to fill up.

We are the leaders in youth development.  TWSports.Org Director & UEFA A Licence Coach, Tim Wareing, has published 2 books.  'Toddler Soccer The Essential Guide' features the games from his award winning Toddler Soccer programme.  It has sold in 26 different countries along with Amazon, Soccer Tutor, Waterstones & WH Smith all stocking it online.  You can grab a free taster by clicking here.

Tim has also published his second book, '1-on-1 Coaching The Secrets To Improve ALL Football Players - GUARANTEED!'  The book has been purchased by pro clubs in England, Germany, Holland, Portugal & Italy as well as selling in over 20 different countries.  One of his students he started TW Sports at the age of 6 has been scouted by Liverpool & has been flown over by the club over 6 times.  You can receive a taster of the book here.

VALENCIA COACHING CLINIC

VALENCIA COACHING CLINIC

The Spanish philosophy & training methods are high in demand with them being current World Cup & European Championship winners.  Along with the success of fellow club sides Real Madrid & Barcelona.  Valencia visited Belfast to operate clinics for local children & coaches.  TW Sports hosted an event in conjunction with organisers Saffron Sport.  Below you can read about the clinic along with some background about this famous Spanish club.

Valencia

Although Valencia deserve the credit as much as Barca & Real.  They play in La Liga & are one of the most successful & biggest clubs in Spanish football & European football.  Valencia have won six La Liga titles, seven Copa del Rey trophies, two Fairs Cups (which was the predecessor to the UEFA Cup), one UEFA Cup, one UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, & two UEFA Super Cups. They have also reached two UEFA Champions League finals in a row, losing to La Liga rivals Real Madrid in 2000 & then to German club Bayern Munich on penalties after a 1–1 draw in 2001.  Valencia were also members of the G-14 group of leading European football clubs.  In total, Valencia have reached seven major European finals, winning four of them.

In the all-time La Liga table, Valencia is in third position behind FC Barcelona & Real Madrid.  In terms of continental titles, Valencia is again the third-most successful behind the two, with these three being the only Spanish clubs to have won five or more continental trophies.

Valencia were founded in 1919 & have played their home games at the 55,000-seater Mestalla since 1923.  They are due to move into the new 75,000-seater Nou Mestalla in the north-west of the city in 2013.  Valencia have a long-standing rivalry with Levante UD, also located in the City of Valencia, & with two others club in the Valencian Community region, Hercules CF & Villarreal CF.

Valencia are the third most supported football club in Spain, behind only Barcelona & Real Madrid.  It is also one of the biggest clubs in the world in terms of number of associates (registered paying supporters), with more than 50,000 season ticket holders & another 20,000+ season ticket holders on the waiting list, who can be accommodated in the new 75,000-seater stadium.

Session Plan

Registration for players & coaches took place from 9.30-10am.  The Valencia coaches, Jose & Manel, arrived early to set up.  Over 30 local children & coaches attended the event.  Many from my Academy attended along with some of my coaching team.  It was nice to see many other children from our Mini Soccer programme come along with children from other local grassroots & Irish League sides.  As always Northern Ireland mentality means so many other children & coaches don't bother to attend an excellent opportunity like this!  Was great to see a coach travel up from down south to attend the clinic too.

After a light warm up & fun game of tig in the 18 yard box they then divided the players to operate keep ball.  This took place in a series of small 5 x 5 yard areas playing 4 v 1.  The duration of the warm up & introduction was approximately 35 minutes before stopping for water.  After this Jose & Manel split the groups.  They worked with 14 children in each group.

Pressing & Come Back

Jose used an i-pad to explain the session & draw out the session plan using a football pitch app.  The players embraced the new technology & way of explaining.  We would see them refer back & use the i-pad on a regular basis to get across explanations to the players throughout the day.  The session took place on half a pitch with full size goals.  The pitch was divided in half & goalkeepers were used.  The basic set up was 3 defenders in one half with 3 attackers in the other half.

One team had to always keep their defenders in that half while the other team had freedom for the defenders to join in with the attackers.  The scenario Jose was trying to create was a tight game whereby one team was winning 1-0 & wanted to keep it tight while the other team were chasing the game.  This was a nice session & you could see the players looking to press as a unit.

Jose would add different restrictions to challenge the players.  The session operated for 30 minutes before players stopped for water & swapped groups.  We then followed the same group to see Manel's session.

Shifting

Manel worked on half a pitch with 2 full size goals & quartered the pitch.  He was concentrating on 'shifting'.  He used the i-pad to help explain to the players what he wanted.  Players were not allowed to tackle, only intercept.  The team out of possession was encouraged to pressure ball while the team in possession started with 3 touch play.  The main concept was when the ball was lost players were told to drop back & shift in relation to the ball.

This was a nice game that developed players understanding of their role when not in possession of the ball.  The Spanish teams don't get enough credit for their hard work & pressing to win the ball back.  This session offered an opportunity to the players to see how disciplined the Spanish are in relation to what each players role is when not in possession of the ball.

FIFA Street

The session took us up to lunch at 11.45am.  The players were given an hour to eat & rest.  After lunch Jose & Manel selected 4 teams to play 'Fifa Street'.  This offered players freedom to play.  They didn't shout or tell them how to play the players were simply given control & freedom of their games.  The only rules were maximum of 2 minute matches or goal the winner.  Winning team stayed on or if it was a draw both teams replaced.  The only other requirement was to make a pass before scoring in the other half.  They used the 18 yard box as the pitch & 5 aside goals.

This was probably the only bit I didn't like in terms that 2 teams were always off & 'ineffective'.  I would personally prefer to have all teams involved.  Although thinking about it & putting myself into their shoes in Valencia it is very hot & they want teams to receive recovery so I guess this is why they did it.  From my time in Holland & Portugal the European approach is that they like players to watch players.  They feel it offers opportunities to learn & if a player likes a move that a team mate tries they are more likely try to replicate it with possible variations.

From the small sided games they then operated a circle drill.  3 players were in the middle trying to gain possession of the ball while the outside players had to make 10 passes with a restriction to 1 or 2 touches.  They rotated players in the middle every 30 seconds.  This led us into the final part of the session for the day.

Space Management

Jose took the final session of the day based on space management.  On half a pitch with 2 full size goals he set up 5 different coloured boxes.  He had one in every corner with a central box.  The main objective was to pass into 2 boxes then play off central box before scoring.

This encouraged players to look for space & use width.  Jose would also at times call out certain colours if he wanted to dictate play more.  The players worked hard at this & I really liked the session as it focused on players finding space & good ball retention.

You can watch some footage I recorded of Jose & Manel working with the group by clicking here.

Interview

After the session I had an opportunity to interview Jose & Manel.  We spoke about youth development in Spain & Valencia's philosophy as well as covering touch line behaviour comparisons & on training methods.  You can watch the interview here.

Review

I'm passionate about sharing ideas & continuing my education in football.  What a treat to spend a day with Valencia & I can't thank Jose & Manel enough for their time & insight.

They coached within the game & only in snippets.  This got players thinking for themselves.  Coaching really isn't a case of screaming all the time & telling players what to do.  Let players search for the solution themselves & you'll notice a real difference long term.

Massive thanks to Saffron Sport for organising & Gareth for offering us opportunity to host the day.  Thanks of course to everyone who supported the event & for my coach, Glenn, for his assistance on the day.

If you want to hear about future pro club clinics or club visits please keep in contact & connect with us.

TWACADEMY.ORG TOUR TO WEST BROMWICH ALBION

TWACADEMY.ORG TOUR TO WEST BROMWICH ALBION

It was a chance phone call at the start of the season that set up this weekend to West Bromwich Albion on the last weekend of the Premiership.  Rewind to August & we had organised our Academy tour to London to see our friend Hugo Langton & his academy along with playing a game against Fulham.  Through Chelsea being awkward & West Brom being so accommodating we finished the season with the Baggies!

We had tried to organise tickets for the Chelsea v West Brom Premier League game at Stamford Bridge.  Although Chelsea would not offer any tickets for less than £75 per person!  No child discount, no group discount & stuck up in the second tier of the Matthew Harding stand.  They suggested contacting West Brom.  I remember to this day phoning West Brom & selecting the foundation at 5.20pm to get the most helpful & accommodating woman called Jan.  It was Jan that offered us a fantastic match day experience at the Hawthorns along with great assistance & hard work by Rich.

West Bromwich Albion

The club is also known as West Brom, The Baggies, The Throstles, Albion or WBA.  They are an English professional football club based in West Bromwich in the West Midlands.  The club was formed in 1878 & have played at their home ground since 1900.

Albion were one of the founding members of The Football League in 1888 & have spent the majority of their existence in the top tier of English football.  They have been champions of England once, in 1919–20, but have had more success in the FA Cup, with five wins.  The first came in 1888, the year the league was founded, & the most recent in 1968, their last major trophy.  They also won the Football League Cup at the first attempt in 1966.  The club’s longest consecutive period in the top division was between 1949 to 1973, & from 1986 to 2002 they spent their longest ever period out of the top division.  The 2011–12 season is their sixth season in the Premier League since 2002.

The team has played in blue & white stripes for most of the club’s history.  Albion have a number of long-standing rivalries with other Midlands clubs; their traditional rivals have always been Aston Villa, but more recently their major rivalry has been with Wolverhampton Wanderers, with whom they contest the Black Country derby.

The Hawthorns

The speed with which the club became established following its foundation is illustrated by the fact that it outgrew four successive grounds in its first seven years.  The first was Cooper’s Hill, where they played from 1878 to 1879.  From 1879 to 1881 they appear to have alternated between Cooper’s Hill & Dartmouth Park.  During the 1881–82 season they played at Bunn’s Field, also known as The Birches.  This had a capacity of between 1,500 & 2,000, & was Albion’s first enclosed ground, allowing the club to charge an entrance fee for the first time.  From 1882 to 1885, as the popularity of football increased, Albion rented the Four Acres ground from the well-established West Bromwich Dartmouth Cricket Club.  But they quickly outgrew this new home & soon needed to move again.  From 1885 to 1900 Albion played at Stoney Lane; their tenure of this ground was arguably the most successful period in the club’s history, as they won the FA Cup twice & were runners-up three times.

By 1900, when the lease on Stoney Lane expired, the club needed a bigger ground yet again & so made its last move to date.  All of Albion’s previous grounds had been close to the centre of West Bromwich, but on this occasion they took up a site on the town’s border with Handsworth.  The new ground was named The Hawthorns, after the hawthorn bushes that covered the area & were cleared to make way for it.  Albion drew 1–1 with Derby County in the first match at the stadium, on 3 September 1900.  The record attendance at The Hawthorns was on 6 March 1937, when 64,815 spectators saw Albion beat Arsenal 3–1 in the FA Cup quarter-final.  The Hawthorns became an all-seater stadium in the 1990s, in order to comply with the recommendations of the Taylor Report.  Its capacity today is 26,272, the four stands being known respectively as the Birmingham Road End, Smethwick End, East Stand and West Stand.  At an altitude of 551 feet (168 m) above sea level, The Hawthorns is the highest of all the 92 Premier League & Football League grounds.

Club Badge

Albion’s main club badge dates back to the late 1880s, when the club’s secretary Tom Smith suggested that a throstle sitting on a crossbar be adopted for the badge.  Since then, the club badge has always featured a throstle, usually on a blue and white striped shield, although the crossbar was replaced with a hawthorn branch at some point after the club’s move to The Hawthorns.  The throstle was chosen because the public house in which the team used to change kept a pet thrush in a cage.  It also gave rise to Albion’s early nickname, The Throstles.  As late as the 1930s, a caged throstle was placed beside the touchline during matches & it was said that it only used to sing if Albion were winning.  In 1979 an effigy of a throstle was erected above the half-time scoreboard of the Woodman corner at The Hawthorns, & was returned to the same area of the ground following redevelopment in the early 2000s.

The badge has been subject to various revisions through the years, meaning that the club were unable to register it as a trademark.  As a result of this, the badge was re-designed in 2006, incorporating the name of the club for the first time.  The new badge gave Albion the legal protection they sought.

Saturday night friendly in the Academy Dome

The success of the Academy teams reaching finals meant our scheduled game against West Brom had to be cancelled.  Although through the special effort of Rich he managed to organise a game against his own team that finished the season as league runners up & cup winners.  Another bonus was he secured the Academy Dome to play the game in!

What an experience for our boys to play in a Premier League Academy facility.  It was also great to have the Academy Dome, Foundation & The Hawthorn Stadium all in the one location.  This was something I liked at Stoke City & previous visits to the likes of European giants, Barcelona & Ajax.  I think it adds as an extra motivation to really make it as a kid developing through the ranks when you see the stadium every day from where you train.

We played 3 periods of 25 minutes.  The first period was very close with both teams playing some attractive football.  A well taken goal from young Ryan McCrory put TW Academy 1-0 up.  His finish was a quality lob over the keeper.  The second period seen another 2 well taken goals from TW Academy through Reese & Curtis Ritchie making it 3-0.

It was also encouraging seeing Rich, like ourselves, insuring that all players were involved & received similar playing times.  The changes that were made seen TW slightly stronger in the third period with John-Lee grabbing a hat trick, Connor Maxwell getting on the score sheet along with Ryan McCrory adding to his tally.

It was a game played in terrific spirits & I was very impressed with the organisation.  Not only did Rich organise the Academy Dome & referee but supplied us with equipment to warm up along with plenty of water & cups for the players.  Although to have a physio present was crucial after Andy McIvor had a bad fall & needed extensive treatment.  It was reassuring that he could be checked over by her.  Again these are all things that people take for granted, but believe me, I know how much planning & organising that has to go in to bring it all together & I can’t thank Rich enough!

Here is some highlights from the game – watch the video!

Match Day Experience

What terrific value West Brom offered us.  For only £25 we received a match ticket to see West Brom play Arsenal, a stadium tour, fun training session & small sided games in the Academy Dome along with a packed lunch!

After a cooked breakfast in our hotel we enjoyed the short stroll over to the Hawthorns to meet Rich.  He welcomed us & placed all our bags securely away in an office so we didn’t have to worry about carrying them all day.  We started the morning with a tour around the Hawthorns.  The highlight was to get pitch side & sit on the bench!  Rich was very informative but insured he kept interesting for parents & children.  After the tour we had an opportunity to see around the club shop & purchase some West Brom goodies!

We then transferred back over to the Academy Dome.  Rich took the boys for a fun warm up & kept it very light after the game from the previous night.  He then soon divided the boys & operated small sided games.  We then seen first hand to what level the club works in the community.  The Dome was packed with other clubs & teams doing the same package.  Not forgetting that they had to be split, so while we were all playing football there was another group doing the stadium tour…there must have been several hundred children on the match day experience!  We were even treated to a display of talent from Connor’s dad – watch the video!

After the session we all received a packed lunch.  This included a sandwich, drink, piece of fruit, chocolate bar & crisps.  We were able to eat this before taking our seats for the game.  What great seats we received as well!  We were in the third row & touching distance of the players.  It really was a special atmosphere as it was the final day of the season & many West Brom supporters came in fancy dress (Batman& Robin insured we got across the road safely & into the stadium!)

West Brom wanted to finish on a victory as Roy Hodgson was leaving for his new role as England Manager, while Arsenal needed the victory to guarantee Champions League football next season.

It was a terrific start to the game.  After an early mistake by the West Brom keeper Arsenal went 1-0 up.  Then the Baggies fought back to go 2-1 up!  The atmosphere was electric!  Arsenal equalised before half time making the score 2-2.  It really was an unbelievable half of football & such a treat to see these Premiership stars live & be so close to the action.

The second half started well & Arsenal went 3-2 up.  After a lengthy stoppage West Brom offered everything going forward & forced what seemed to be 5 or 6 corners in a row but couldn’t find that equaliser.  We had to sneak away just before the final whistle so that Rich could grab our bags for us & we transferred back to the airport for our return flight to Belfast.

We captured highlights from a special day at the Hawthorns – watch the video!

On returning to the Academy Dome to collect our bags we bumped into Baggies hero, Darren Moore, who signed autographs & was happy to have his photo taken with us all.

Clubs don’t receive enough credit for opportunities like these.  People sometimes take things for granted but to receive what we did for such a low price is special.  To head to an Irish League game can cost in the region of £10-£12 per adult & £5-£7 per child.  To think what West Brom offered us for only £25 really does show you the lengths they work too.

Thanks

Our thanks goes to West Bromwich Albion FC for such a fantastic experience & for their hospitality – especially to Jan & Rich.  Also to all the parents & children that supported the tour.  A lot of organising goes into these great opportunities & pro club visits & shouldn’t be taken for granted.  The Academy was launched in 2010 & boys have had the opportunity to travel to Holland to play PSV Eindhoven & Helmond Sport including playing in an all seater stadium along with visits to PSV & Ajax’s stadiums.  We then travelled to London & played against Fulham before having a bumper April & May.  This offered opportunities to players from the academy to travel to Premier League side, Stoke City, for training & a game before a visit to Carrington & Manchester United.  Of course we can’t forget about the terrific game & clinic against SC Braga in Belfast!

For those that want more information about the Academy & to request a trial please contact Tim Wareing on; 07740120788 or email.  Remember this does not effect the club you play for.  We offer additional training to develop your child’s technique & game understanding helping to offer the all important 10,000 hour theory – 1 or 2 sessions per week is not enough.

BELFAST TELEGRAPH - 100 JOBS IN 100 DAYS

BELFAST TELEGRAPH - 100 JOBS IN 100 DAYS

At TWSports.Org we always look to support young coaches & offer opportunities of on the job experience.  We also have internal training along with club visits across Europe.  Below you can read our feature in the Belfast Telegraph.

Football coach joins Telegraph team to help boost apprenticeship drive

On-the-job training...an open goal if you want to get ahead

There's nothing better than getting on-the-job training & real life experience.

That's the view of Tim Wareing of TW Sports, whose business has become the latest to back the Belfast Telegraph's campaign to create 100 apprenticeships in 100 days.

The ethos of learning & training on the job is one which applies to the sports field as well as more every day workplaces.

Indeed Mr Wareing (33) started his career training to be a travel agent, which he combined with NVQ II & III classes at then Castlereagh College.

But his business, which has become his life's work, is training football coaches & providing soccer programmes for young kids, including toddlers.

He is also the author of Toddler Soccer, The Essential Guide To A Toddlers First Steps In Soccer.

Mr Wareing, who has been recognised by Invest NI for his entrepreneurial achievements said he had been impressed by the commitment to sport & learning shown by the young people who have been trained by him.

That led him to be a firm believer in apprenticeships.

"I'd definitely back the Belfast Telegraph's campaign to create 100 apprenticeships in 100 days, because I'm a big advocate of learning on the job.  To take someone & give them experience on the job as well as getting them the teaching is wonderful.

"When you combine the passion people have for football with learning, it's a great combination."

Mr Wareing coached at Lisburn Distillery between the ages of 24 & 30 & also became the club's academy director.  He achieved his UEFA European A coaching licence at 24, but his career began differently.

"My background when I left school was in travel, but when I was made redundant at the age of 26 I set up TW Sports."

Yet working at Globetrotter Travel hasn't been wasted in his present business environment.

"It was this position in an independent agency that offered me the experience of how to operate a business - dealing with the public, making reservations, customer care, marketing & all the other jobs that operating a small to medium-sized business."

Now he is happy to ensure other people can get equally valuable training working alongside with him.

MANCHESTER UNITED VISIT

MANCHESTER UNITED VISIT

April really was a terrific month of experiences & club visits.  We kicked off with welcoming Braga to Belfast then travelled to Stoke City & Manchester United.  To be honest Manchester was planned as a birthday present for my son & we organised to travel with friends but with having a couple of contacts there from the @Coaching Family on Twitter I couldn’t resist to organise to meet up with them.  It was another memorable trip!

United Experience

We brought the boys down to Old Trafford for a stadium tour.  This was terrific for them as they got to see around the ground, sit in the changing rooms & walk down the tunnel onto pitch side before taking their seats on the bench!   They also got to learn about the history of the club from the Munich disaster through to the the successes on the pitch.  It was great to see around the museum & trophy rooms along with seeing an area dedicated to Paul Scholes.

After the tour we visited the club shop & the boys were able to get some United gear.  Quite amazing what you can get a Manchester United badge onto nowadays!

Packed up we departed for the Trafford Centre.  For those that don’t know this is a massive shopping complex with entertainment & restaurants.  After visiting the week previous I wasn’t keen to do the shops again lol.  Fortunately the boys entertained themselves in the arcade before we met with Pavl & Andy…known as @betterfootball & @Hiltaldo from Twitter.  Pavl interviewed me last year when I published my second book, ‘1-on-1 Coaching The Secrets To Improve ALL Football Players – GUARANTEED!‘  You can hear the interview here.

We caught up over a drink & some lunch.  It is fascinating meeting coaches this way.  You meet so many quality coaches online & it is great to meet them in the flesh.  What was terrific was having the opportunity to follow Pavl & Andy up to Carrington, Manchester United’s training ground.  Andy organises a community programme every Friday evening at Carrington.  This allows children to come in for coaching & games.   They cater from 5 year olds up to 14 / 15 year olds.  There is also a dedicated goalkeepers clinic & coach assessments that take place.  We met with Bill who holds the UEFA A Licence & is also a coach assessor.  I was impressed by the team along with the facilities of course.

Upon driving up to Carrington you pass Manchester City’s training complex as well as Sale Rugby Club.  Arriving at Manchester United you...

STOKE CITY EXPERIENCE

STOKE CITY EXPERIENCE

I had the pleasure to travel over to Stoke City FC with 3 boys from our elite squad.  This was a terrific experience for the boys to see a Premier League club & it’s academy set up.  Their U10 coach, Will Ryder, hosted us during our stay & I must say what a positive experience we all had.

Belfast Departure

We all met at Belfast International Airport for the 7am departure to Manchester.  A nice early start that had Ryan, Stephen & Tom all kitted out in their black TW Academy tracksuit along with white polo.  They all said goodbye to their parents & I became their surrogate father for the next 4 days lol.  We got straight through security & boarded the plane.  We enjoyed a pleasant flight over to Manchester on a lovely morning.  We used the time to chat about the experience telling them to be focused but to truly enjoy the experience.

The Stoke U10 Academy Manager, Will, arrived to collect us at Manchester & transfer us to his home in Stoke.  It was an enjoyable journey that offered an opportunity to get to know Will.  Straight away I found him to be very professional but with a warm personality that put the boys at ease.  It’s funny as over the years I sometimes would meet very stuffy coaches who seem to be above themselves & I wonder how they can relate to kids.  To meet a guy from a top premiership club that had such a welcoming & down to earth attitude was refreshing.  But that’s enough man love for Will haha.

Arrival & Small Group Session

We got settled in to his house & had a drink before preparing to go out for a morning small group session with Will.  The session took place on grass outside the Academy Dome which incidentally is just across from the Britannia Stadium.  What a back drop to have while you train!  It was a great opportunity to watch another coach work with a small group.  As many of you know it is something I work on a daily basis with – 1-on-1 coaching & small group coaching.

The boys had a terrific time concentrating on ball familiarisation, Speed, Agility & Quickness (SAQ), passing & then into finishing.  I filmed highlights from the session & you can see Will & the boys work by clicking here.  This is something I do until the cows come home.  You can never do enough ball work!  Will also had one of his academy development players arrive in to take the group up to 4.

When you watch the video you will see that Will has a great way with working with players.  I believe we share similar philosophies.  It is refreshing to see a coach work heavily on technique through demonstration, snippets of guidance & always positive encouragement.

First Team Training Complex & the Academy

After the session the boys got to see the Academy indoor 3G Dome & parents lounge.  We then transferred over to the first team training ground.  Will’s U10 team had a friendly against the only team that Stoke have an official link with.  They were over from Orlando.

It was terrific to see around the first team complex & to see one of the academy teams in action.  At this age group they played on a smaller pitch with smaller nets.  On all occasions the keeper looked to pass the ball out & play from the back.  The defenders were comfortable on the ball & we witnessed some lovely passages of play & individual skill.  The players looked to take players on & the coaches only added encouragement & short snippets of advice to the players.

BRAGA VISIT TW ACADEMY IN BELFAST

BRAGA VISIT TW ACADEMY IN BELFAST

We were pleased to welcome Portuguese side, SC Braga, to Belfast over the Easter period.  My good friend & Braga’s Assistant Academy Director, Hugo Vicente, travelled with his U13 side.  They were taking part in a tournament in Dublin.  We organised for them to travel up to see Belfast & play TWAcademy.

SC Braga

Sporting Clube de Braga is commonly known as Sporting de Braga or simply Braga.  They play at the AXA Stadium which is also known as ‘The Quarry’ or the ‘Tool Box’.  This is due to the design where the stadium is built inside a Quarry with cables attaching the 2 main stands.  The ground was built for UEFA Euro 2004.

Braga had been known as Arsenal do Minho and changed their kits from green and white hoops to their Arsenal style red in 1935.  This is due to their coach, Jozsef Szabo, visiting and watching Arsenal at the old Highbury ground.

The emblem of Sporting de Braga is the city of Braga’s shield with Mother Mary and baby Jesus.  On the top of the emblem is the golden Mural Crown of Braga, with the name Sporting Clube de Braga on it.  Many fans of Braga have said that Mother Mary gives them luck.  The fans of Braga are known as Arsenalistas due to their team home kit that resembles that of English club Arsenal.

After finishing runners up in the Portuguese league during season 2009 / 2010 they qualified for the knock stages of the Champions League. They defeated Celtic and Sevilla to qualify for the group stages of the Champions League for the very first time.

Youth Set Up

Braga provides teams from 7 / 8 year olds and above.  The younger section of the Academy will train 3 times per week along with a match.  They concentrate heavily on ball mastery and 1 v 1 duels on defence and attack.

Players also receive homework so they really develop and are confident using both feet.  Braga will work closely with a number of other local clubs.  They play in a number of tournaments so they are playing against the best.

They will play small sided games on smaller pitches and with a smaller ball at the young age.  Their U13′s play 11 v 11 on a full size pitch.  I suppose one of the problems is with the local leagues that they are forced to play in.  Some opposition are very poor.

As the players get older they will start to train more.  The U19′s for example are in every day.  They also have players from all over the world.  The nationalities in the squad asides from Portuguese include; German, Greek, Brazilian along with a number of players on trial from Africa.

The U19′s train at the old Braga stadium which is a great facility.  The Spain National team used this as their base during Euro 2004.  They also play their home games here.  An athletic club also operate out of the same base.  During the week that we were in Braga there had been a lot of rain so the training was transferred to 2 full size 3G pitches that are at the same location.  They are Council run but a great facility to fall back on.

Belfast Welcome

We organised a coach to transfer the players, staff & parents of SC Braga from their Dublin base to Belfast.  Chris Lyttle, MLA, from the Alliance Party organised a tour around the Northern Ireland Assembly at Stormont.  This is were the Good Friday Agreement was signed.  The players & coaches enjoyed the tour & were able to get some great photos.

It was also superb to welcome a good ‘Twitter’ friend of mine called Liam.  He flew in from England to enjoy the full day…showing a real hunger to learn & develop as a coach!

After the tour it was back on to the Braga coach & transfer to Belfast Boys’ Model School to play the challenge game at the fantastic venue of Mount Pleasant on the 3G pitch.

Braga playing in their famous red tops while TW Academy turned out in their bright orange tops like the Dutch!  It was a very well contested game of football.  The technical ability from both sets of players on show was impressive.  TW Academy started well & were very disciplined & played some attractive football.

2011 REVIEW OF THE YEAR

Happy New Year!  Now 2012 has arrived I thought I would review 2011 at the TWSports.Org Group.  From travelling to SC Braga to visiting the fantastic Watford Academy it has been another action packed year.  I published my second book in June, celebrated 6 years of operating TWSports.Org in July and took my Academy over to London to play Fulham!

SC Braga visit via Porto

April – Director of TWSports.Org, Tim Wareing, travelled to Braga to meet up with his good friend, Hugo Vicente, at SC Braga.  Coach Frank & Coach Andrew joined Tim on a 4 day Club visit of a top Portuguese club who would later secure a place in the final of this year’s Europa League.

The Ryanair flight arrived into Porto all on time.  With Hugo busy taking training sessions it offered an opportunity to see around the city.  What a beautiful city Porto is.  The team had a look around the stadium before making their way to the river to meet Hugo & have some lunch.

After lunch the team transferred to Braga to get settled in & freshened up for the evening session.  The U13′s, U12′s, U11′s & U10′s all trained on a full size 3G pitch spread over a 2 hour period.  All the sessions involved the ball & fun activities for a warm up before possession type games & small sided games after.  The Braga Academy has some of the best goalkeeping coaches in the country.

As Tim remembered during his last visit in November about the well mannered kids from the Academy it was evident still to this day.  On arrival players from the age of 7 automatically greet their coaches (& us visitors!) with a hello & hand shake.  They are confident children that behave & represent the club to such a high standard.  What is also refreshing is the relaxed friendly environment.  Although this doesn’t stop the coaches demanding the players to work hard but it proves children respond better in an enjoyable setting.

We also enjoyed a second day at the old stadium which is now the base for the U19′s & an athletics club.  We saw Hugo work with a small group of players on a technical basis.  Very interesting that it was the goalkeepers.  The hour was based around working with their feet as the modern day keeper is seen as a sweeper too.

We enjoyed another evening session with the younger boys of the Academy.  A real bonus was for us to eat with one of the U13 players who lives in Braga with a club ‘nanny’.  To be away from his family at such a young age & carry out such a busy daily schedule was amazing to hear.  Although the club look after Pedro so well.  I share more information on Pedro’s schedule on my blog by clicking here!

On the Thursday Braga were away playing their quarter final first leg game in the Europa League.  The Club President has a rule that all teams don’t train so they can watch the first team.  This gave us the opportunity to watch a typical grassroots club in Portugal train.  It is always interesting comparing the professional game to grassroots from country to country.

The Amateur Club had a very impressive set up.  From a full size grass pitch & a full size 3G pitch with floodlights, an impressive new stand & club house to an indoor 3G pitch for when the weather is poor (in north Portugal it gets very cold in the winter)

We enjoyed dinner along with watching Braga achieve a great result.  A great night was enjoyed along with a relaxing Friday before our return home.

This proved to be another great fact finding trip.  TWSports.Org would like to thank Hugo & Braga for their hospitality.  4 days of being looked after by a wonderful club & players was truly amazing.  We enjoyed great friendship, football, weather & food.  We now look forward to welcoming Hugo back to Northern Ireland.

‘Luke has been receiving 1-on-1 coaching from Tim for over two years.  He has been part of Tim’s community programme from the age of six.  After six months of Tim working with Luke he was invited into the Liverpool Academy based in Belfast.  He has also been invited to the IFA County Down and Excellence programme.  A number of clubs are monitoring Luke’s development after a successful performance in Holland on Tim’s Academy tour as well as a great season at his club.  I can’t speak highly enough of the importance of 1-on-1 coaching and how it has developed my son’s talent and ability.’

November – UEFA A Licence coach & Director of TWSports.Org, Tim Wareing, was invited to Watford FC to view their wonderful Academy.

‘I arrived on the Monday evening & was collected by Watford coach, Dave Godley.  I was welcomed on board onto Dave’s narrow boat which provided a relaxing stay in London.  Tuesday morning we attended the Harefield Academy (the school).  Watford have about 40 of their Academy players attending the school.

The presentation offered an insight into how Watford have taken a successful Dutch academy set up but personalise it to suit their own needs.  Other clubs in attendance included Tottenham Hotspur, Reading, Southampton, Derby County & the Scottish FA.

After our tour of the school we listened to the presentation & success stories.  We then got the opportunity to watch the training.  The boys receive two sessions daily & up to 15 hours coaching a week without losing out on their education.

Later in the day we got to watch the 7′s & 8′s train before heading down to Vicarage Road to watch the first team play Bristol City.  A very eventful game with Watford going 2-0 up only to end the game drawing 2-2.

I flew home from Luton on Wednesday after enjoying lunch with Dave & a look around Watford town centre.  I was so impressed with the set up.

December – A fun month with a number of coaching clinics by UEFA A Licence Coach & Director of TWSports.Org, Tim Wareing.  Open to all children the clinics were perfect to develop children in a relaxed environment.  Tim also organised fun Christmas Eve events for all the children across the programme including the toddlers, while Santa dropped in with some presents!

FOOTBALL BOOTS FOR AFRICA

FOOTBALL BOOTS FOR AFRICA

If you're wondering what to do with your spare or old footy boots then read the following request from the Craig Bellamy Academy & help support a worthy cause...

About the Craig Bellamy Foundation

The Craig Bellamy Foundation is a charity that offers underprivileged children in Sierra Leone the chance to reach their true potential in life through sport and education, enabling them to build a better life for themselves, their families and their communities. We do this by running a non-profit-making residential football academy and international school, as well as operating a nationwide community development youth league, supported by UNICEF.

Since the leagues inception in 2009, over 3200 players have competed at u12 and u14 age brackets, and the Craig Bellamy Foundation has handed out an impressive 1720 academic scholarships to children who would have otherwise struggled to enter mainstream education.  This has resulted in a staggering rise in school attendance rates amongst the league participants - with CBF registering an average school attendance rate of 92%, in comparison to the national average for secondary school attendance of a concerning 21%.

The league’s impact doesn’t end there however.  Youth Exclusion and Health Awareness are some of the most pressing challenges facing Sierra Leone today, and the Craig Bellamy Foundation are intent on playing their part in tackling each of these issues.  To date the players and volunteers of the foundation have completed over 500 community projects across the nation, and effected in excess of 50’000 people through the delivery of positive health messages.

And it is not just the boys who are getting in on the act.  January 2012 will see the Craig Bellamy Foundation further challenge the issues of Gender Inequality within Sierra Leone by launching the country’s first national youth football league aimed at girls.  20 Female football clubs from Freetown, Makeni, Bo and Kenema will compete at u15/u19 age categories – mirroring their male colleagues by collecting points not only through their performances on the field, but also through school attendance, fair play, community involvement, and health awareness.

Over the coming 12 months, the Craig Bellamy Foundation aims to continue to increase its impact within Sierra Leone, expanding the number of players registered with the foundation from 1680 to over 2300, as well as offering academic scholarships to every child competing in both the boys and girls leagues.

How you can help…

Currently ranked 180, out of 187 countries in the United Nations Development Index, the challenges facing Sierra Leone are extensive, but through football, we at the Craig Bellamy Foundation believe we can motivate and empower the next generation of Sierra Leonean children to change their lives for the better, and create a better future for Sierra Leone.

By constantly improving our national development leagues, we are able to attract more children to play the game, and through doing so - increase their access to education, community involvement and health awareness.

One area that the league struggles in is our ability to source football boots for our children to wear when playing the game, with many of the young players in Sierra Leone playing bare foot on rough pitches.

This is where we believe that the participants of TW Sports can help.  As we all know, children grow out of shoes and football boots so quickly, and are constantly in need of ‘the next size up’.  We at the Craig Bellamy Foundation, and the children of Sierra Leone would be eternally grateful if you would allow us to provide a new home for those football boots that are no longer needed by your son or daughter.

If you feel that you would like to help support us in our quest to improve the lives of children in Sierra Leone through the donation of football boots, please drop your old boots off to Coach Tim at any of his coaching centres.  If he is unavailable then please tell the Head Coach to pass on to him.

ROYAL WEDDING STREET PARTY

ROYAL WEDDING STREET PARTY

Friday 29 April 2011 will remain a famous day for the Royal Wedding.  There was 1000's of street parties up & down the country with one happening in East Belfast.

Downshire, off the Cregagh Road, organised a street party & TWSports.Org were only too happy to get involved & offer free football for all the kids attending.  We set up 2 pitches, a mini pitch for the under 6's & a bigger pitch for the 7 year olds+.

There was a lovely community spirit around the event with young & old mixing through football, bouncy castles, food & of course the wedding.  We had toddlers to teenagers playing football - not forgetting a talented grandpa!

TWSports.Org & ToddlerSoccer.Org have offered their services free of charge to a number of charity & special events this year along with supporting CHD-NI & the Marie Curie Cancer appeal.  This is a side of the business that we take very seriously.

We were only too glad to play our part in a very successful day & thanks must go to the organising committee & everyone that helped out & took part.

BRAGA CLUB VISIT

BRAGA CLUB VISIT

Director of TWSports.Org, Tim Wareing, travelled to Braga to meet up with his good friend, Hugo Vicente, at SC Braga.  Coach Frank & Coach Andrew joined Tim on a 4 day Club visit of a top Portuguese club who have secured a place in the semi finals of this year's Europa League.

A 3.30am departure from Coach Tim's house was in order to make the flight departing from Dublin at 7am.  After checking through security it was a full cooked Irish breakfast with a bucket of coffee...after only finishing work at 1.30am Coach Tim believed this would keep him going after his 2 hour sleep!

The U13's, U12's, U11's & U10's all trained on a full size 3G pitch spread over a 2 hour period.

Although this doesn't stop the coaches demanding the players to work hard but it proves children respond better in an enjoyable setting.

We also enjoyed a second day at the old stadium which is now the base for the U19's & an athletics club.  We saw Hugo work with a small group of players on a technical basis.  Very interesting that it was the goalkeepers.  The hour was based around working with their feet as the modern day keeper is seen as a sweeper too.

We enjoyed another evening session with the younger boys of the Academy.  A real bonus was for us to eat with one of the U13 players who lives in Braga with a club 'nanny'.  To be away from his family at such a young age & carry out such a busy daily schedule was amazing to hear.  Although the club look after Pedro so well.  I will share more information on Pedro's schedule on my blog very soon.  Make sure you save my blog to your favourites by clicking here!

On the Thursday Braga were away playing their quarter final first leg game in the Europa League.  The Club President has a rule that all teams don't train so they can watch the first team.

NEW AGE GROUPS AT THE ACADEMY

NEW AGE GROUPS AT THE ACADEMY

I can improve YOUR child's technical ability and offer great opportunities that they wouldn't receive anywhere else!

Tim Wareing, Academy Director (UEFA A Licence)

They say it takes 10,000 hours to stand a chance of developing into an elite player - how many hours does your child receive of quality coaching?

We have exciting news that we are adding a 7-10 year old elite group & a 15-18 year old group to the TW Academy!  We already have a successful squad of 18 11-14 year olds.  Along with top quality coaching we are based at top quality facilities thanks to Bloomfield FC.

You can request a place now by contacting Academy Director, Tim Wareing, on 07740120788 or by email.

We seek to develop the all round player, providing the technical basis for football excellence together with the need to understand the importance of acceptable social behaviour, in order to succeed as a potential professional player.

The Academy will offer each player;

  • A structured learning programme
  • Regular individual feedback and duty of care
  • Medical welfare
  • Educational support
  • Structured training programme
  • Opportunities to travel & play against other teams locally and abroad

The cost for each 6 week programme is £30.

Luke's Story...

Luke started with TWSports.Org Mini Soccer at the age of 6 at our Civil Service club.

He plays for a local boys club but I also work with him, 1-on-1, 2-3 times per week.  The additional coaching hours has really helped improve his overall technical ability & game understanding.  This has combined well with his clubs training.

Luke started May 2009.  He already was very talented but only one footed.  In the space of 1-2 months we had Luke using both feet.

We also worked together on a Personal Development Programme (PDP).  This sets short & long term goals.

By September 2009 Luke was selected for the National County Down squad & scouted for Liverpool FC.

For more information on 1-on-1 coaching with me click on this link!

BRAGA REVIEW

BRAGA REVIEW

Director of TWAcademy.Org & UEFA 'A' Licence Coach, Tim Wareing, travelled to Braga, Portugal.  It was another great experience viewing a top European Club that is competing in the UEFA Champions League.  The TWSports.Org Group & Tim would like to express their thanks for the kind invite & hospitality from Hugo & SC Braga.  Here is Tim's report...

Braga

The northern city is the third biggest in Portugal, although it still keeps its charm & feel of a village.  The architecture of the buildings & Se Cathedral were beautiful.  The views over the city from the Bom Jesus do Monte was breath-taking.

We found the people to be very friendly.  The food was of a very high standard & very reasonable to eat out.  The Portuguese don't do a quick sandwich but eat a large meal at lunch time as well as evening.  It is a very social thing to meet friends & family at lunch.  We enjoyed eating fresh bread & a great main course before finishing with coffee.  It was great to eat at leisure & talk about football.

SC Braga

Sporting Clube de Braga is commonly known as Sporting de Braga or simply Braga.  They play at the AXA Stadium which is also known as 'The Quarry' or the 'Tool Box'.  This is due to the design where the stadium is built inside a Quarry with cables attaching the 2 main stands.  The ground was built for UEFA Euro 2004.

Braga had been known as Arsenal do Minho & changed their kits from green & white hoops to their Arsenal style red in 1935.  This is due to their coach, Jozsef Szabo, visiting & watching Arsenal at the old Highbury ground.

The emblem of Sporting de Braga is the city of Braga's shield with Mother Mary & baby Jesus.

They defeated Celtic & Sevilla to qualify for the group stages of the Champions League for the very first time.

Youth Set Up

Braga provides teams from 7 / 8 year olds & above.  The younger section of the Academy will train 3 times per week along with a match.  They concentrate heavily on ball mastery & 1 v 1 duels on defence & attack.

Players also receive homework so they really develop & are confident using both feet.  Braga will work closely with a number of other local clubs.  They play in a number of tournaments so they are playing against the best.

They will play small sided games on smaller pitches & with a smaller ball at the young age.  On the day we arrived into Portugal we got to watch their U13's.  At this stage they play 11 v 11 on a full size pitch.  I suppose one of the problems is with the local leagues that they are forced to play in.  Some opposition are very poor.  Braga eased to a 19-0 victory on the day.

As the players get older they will start to train more.  The U19's for example are in every day.  They also have players from all over the world.  The nationalities in the squad asides from Portuguese include; German, Greek, Brazilian along with a number of players on trial from Africa.

The U19's train at the old Braga stadium which is a great facility.

All the players training clothing is ready on their arrival in a basket set out in the changing room with their name on it.  They change before reporting to the pitch.  Each day we watched we were always greeted with a smile & hand shake.  I also found it nice that all the players always shake hands when they meet including players & children from different age groups.

1-on-1 Coaching

Another important role for Hugo Vicente as the Technical Director is to work with players 1-on-1 or in a small group.  He'll concentrate on ball mastery, using both feet & a number of games & sessions that relate to the position they play.

This is something crucial to the overall development in each individual player's game.  The players I personally work with 1-on-1 have found the benefits that it has added to their game & overall development.  You can find out more by following this link or watching video 1 or video 2.

Champions League

What a treat to watch a live game in this wonderful stadium.  Made even better that it was Arsenal in the Champions League!  To be a stone's throw from the players during the warm up & to be part of the crowd was something else.

With the teams lined up, the Champions League music blasted out & all the home support held up Braga posters to really create a special atmosphere.  I got goose bumps; I knew something special was going to happen!

To see players like Theo Walcott, Denilson, Jack Wilshere, Rosicky, Bendtner & the great Cesc Fabregas in the flesh was a treat.  Although I must admit, Arsenal was very disappointing on the night.  Braga over all deserved their win & Nascimento Matheus scored two great goals - especially his second.

What a result from Braga, especially after being defeated 6-0 away to Arsenal earlier in the group.  I was surprised that it was not a sell out but those that came went home happy...apart from the travelling Arsenal supporters!  The Porto Manager also watched the game behind us.

Review

The hospitality that was shown to me & my colleague Daniel is hard to express in words.  Hugo, the club & the players were so welcoming.  SC Braga is such a family, friendly club.  Every staff member & player - from the young age of 7 - welcomed us with a smile & a hand shake.  This created such a positive experience as everyone was so approachable.  Especially in a day & age where at some clubs people & players feel they are above the normal person.

I also found all the youth players very confident & polite.  This is very much a European way but something I like to instil in my own children & kids I work with.  Manners & confidence cost nothing but create a lasting experience.

This experience will last with me & I will always have a real fondness & interest in SC Braga.  Watch our video review by clicking this link!

HALLOWEEN CAMP REVIEW

HALLOWEEN CAMP REVIEW

What a great group & 3 days we had at Cregagh Halloween Camp!  Tim Wareing operated 5 hour action packed days of coaching, small sided games & finished off with a Halloween Party on the Friday!

Over the 3 days children aged 5-13 enjoyed learning & developing their dribbling, skills, passing, shooting & game understanding through some great games & coaching sessions.

We also had toddlers aged 2-4 that arrived in for an hour each day & had great fun too through playing Roary the Racing Car to Dora & Diego in the jungle!  Every child had great fun & were a pleasure to work with.  All the children mixed well & enjoyed each other company.

On Friday we had a great indoor party with loads of food, drink & DVD's...the costumes were great!

Thank you to Buddy Coach Thomas for his assistance, he enjoyed work experience that much he returned to help & learn more.  Thomas has been part of our programme since we started!  Also to Leanne for her hard work & preparing all the food.  Of course I would like to thank all the kids & parents for attending for their great behaviour & support.

Look forward to seeing you all next week at our weekly centres!

HOLLAND TOUR SUCCESS

HOLLAND TOUR SUCCESS

Tim Wareing, Director of TWAcademy.Org, organised a tour for 25 boys & parents to travel to Holland.  The tour arrangements were organised by Tim's close friend & top Dutch Coach, Bert-Jan (BJ) Heijmans.  The tour brought together a selection of boys from over 6 different boys & Irish League clubs.  The tour offered an opportunity to live the life of a professional during the 4 day training camp.

After a great flight from Belfast International to Schiphol Amsterdam we were met by a luxurious coach & good friend BJ.  We transferred to Den Bosch to our base at the 4* Hotel Vaught.  After checking into our rooms & unpacking we met up for a team meeting.  BJ took the opportunity to welcome everyone & explain in full the weekend ahead.  The squad then enjoyed a meal together before having a stroll to the old town.  The boys then headed to their rooms for a well deserved rest.

Saturday morning the team met for breakfast before transferring to VV Eindhoven, this is a feeder team of PSV Eindhoven.  After a team talk & warm up the boys took to the field for what would turn out to be an excellent performance & very entertaining game.

Eindhoven v TWAcademy.Org, Saturday

The match was played in 3 periods of 25 minutes.  During the first period we had a number of great chances created by some fast flowing football.  Unfortunately Mackie, Stewart & McCrory couldn't break the deadlock.  Against the run of play, & right before the first break, Eindhoven scored to go 1-0 up.  A very cool finish by the Eindhoven forward.

The second period was very exciting.  Mackie scored probably one of the hardest of his opportunities by finishing well with a volley to make the score 1-1.  More excitement was to follow after a free kick was awarded on the edge of the Eindhoven box.  Ryan McCrory stepped up to score a marvellous free kick into the right hand corner of the goal, 2-1 to TWAcademy!

All the goals seemed to be saved for the final period.  Eindhoven equalised, making the score 2-2.  Soon after Luke Fisher received the ball on the half way line & beat 2 players as if they weren't there.  He then outsprinted the covering defender before cutting inside & finishing with a lethal right foot finish, 3-2.  TWAcademy then took control with Mikey Crawford taking a well worked goal, 4-2.  The temperature continued to rise & some tired legs started to show.  Although it was the heads to go first, switching off from a corner Eindhoven pulled a goal back.  A number of the Academy players were frustrated & ran to the referee claiming that the corner was taken half way between near post & corner flag.  To their frustration this is allowed in Holland.  Again this shows how they tailor the game to the children in Holland.

With minutes remaining the talented PSV Eindhoven forward finished brilliantly to make the final score 4-4.  What a great performance by the young boys.  The scouts watching were very impressed & will monitor a number of the TWAcademy players.

Philips Stadium

After the game we enjoyed lunch on the executive bus that the Premiership teams use for games.  We transferred to PSV Eindhoven's ground, The Philips Stadium.  Our tour guide was very friendly, informative & interested in our party.  We got pitch side, taken through the changing rooms, media room & executive seating area.  We walked the corridors that many famous players & managers of the past have done.  This includes the great Sir Bobby Robson & players such as Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Before returning to the hotel we had opportunity to purchase some PSV gear in their shop.

Evening Session

BJ then took the boys for a training session at a fantastic indoor arena owned by our friend Martien Pennings.  Martien is a head scout at PSV & travelled over to Belfast to operate a clinic for coaches for TWSports.Org.

BJ's session involved all the players & each of them always had a ball.  You can view these sessions on a DVD that will be produced from our trip.  For more information contact Tim on, 077 4012 0788.

Helmond Sport v TWAcademy.Org, Sunday

After breakfast we transferred to Dutch First Division side, Helmond Sport.  With the first team being away we had the opportunity to play in the first team stadium, a 5000 all seater stadium!  What a great experience for the boys.  The pitch was shortened & smaller goals placed on either 18 yard line.  Again proving why the Dutch are more technically gifted & offer a more child friendly approach.

The game was quite one sided with TWAcademy.Org recording a great 10-1 win.  Although the Dutch counter parts were younger, played some nice football & never gave in.  Again a number of the TWAcademy players attracted interest.

The game finished with everyone hitting a penalty.  In both games our Dutch counterparts offered us all the balls, bibs, cones & water we required for our warm up.  We had showers & changing rooms & a club room for tea & coffee.

Dutch Taste

After the game we went to the local chippy to discover the Dutch equivalent to fish & chips!  Although some of the kids were not fussed on some of the items the parents & coaching team enjoyed it!

We then went for a game of bowls before transferring back to the Philips Stadium to watch PSV Eindhoven v AZ.  After a non eventful first half the second half improved & we cheered PSV on to a 2-1 victory.

After a very busy, but very enjoyable couple of days, we enjoyed a free night in the hotel.  Along with BJ & Danny we carried out player analysis after dinner.  This offered a 1-to-1 informative chat with each player to add to their game & how they can improve on any weaknesses.

PSV Eindhoven First Team Training, Monday

After breakfast we boarded the bus with our luggage sad knowing that it was our last day in Holland.  But to cheer us up BJ had organised another fantastic day!  We arrived at the first team training ground of PSV.  We saw a couple of first team & reserve team players train.  They also took the time to speak with us, sign autographs & pose for photos.

They also had their academy players in for a week of professional training.  2 sessions daily, basically training as a first team player.  It was fascinating to watch.  Kids had the freedom to train & coaches got down to their level & made it fun but always high tempo & use of the ball.

Hans Segers

I think the highlight was meeting ex Wimbledon keeper (aka crazy gang!) Hans Segers.  He is now a goalkeeper coach at PSV & organised a penalty shoot out for the boys against the PSV keeper!

It hit home to everyone - players & parents - to what I have been saying over the past number of years.  In Holland everyone is so approachable & down to earth.  There are no big egos or super stars.  This was our final meeting at PSV at what a way to finish on!

Ajax, Amsterdam ArenA

Before making our way back to the airport we stopped off to enjoy a stadium tour of Ajax at the Amsterdam ArenA.  We also had time to view the historic museum of this great European club.

On our way back to the airport our captains, Luke Fisher & Keegan Rice, presented BJ & our coach driver with gifts & made a speech through the microphone on the coach.  They spoke very well & it was very moving for BJ to have 2 young boys speak so well.

Observations

This was my fourth time in Holland.  So was great to meet up with friends & for so many parents & boys to see my love for the country & philosophy so much.  The boys & parents mixed so well.  It shows the training each week at the Academy really does add to their games along with what they receive outside of that.  In Holland boys of 11 & 12 will train up to 4 times per week.  In Northern Ireland the reality is once weekly, maybe twice.  This is why children attending the TWAcademy don't only benefit from another session but the quality coaching & opportunities they receive really does add to their game.

Another massive difference is that the Dutch continue to work with players & always keeping them at a level that suits.  While Premiership clubs (& youth teams in NI) replace up to 50% of their players it is no surprise long term development is not available & more & more players are leaving the game.

The DVD features BJ's analysis on this & what he thinks about TWAcademy.  If you want to hear more & watch more sign up to our Facebook page & You Tube channel.

Future

The boys will continue to train with myself on a weekly basis.  Some also have booked & continue to avail of my 1-on-1 coaching.  We will return to Holland.  We also have an invite from Portugal.  Short term we will look at taking the boys over to visit BJ in Durham & play his side as well as Sunderland or Newcastle.

We also hope to organise player & coach exchange between TWAcademy & in Holland.  Many of our players attracted interest.  So if you would like to find out more about getting your child involved simply contact me now, 077 4012 0788 or by email.

Thanks

TWAcademy.Org would like to thank our sponsors; Absolute Marketing, Grounded Espresso Bars & Kaizen Print.  We extend our thanks to all the children & parents for their support.  Finally we thank all the clubs & people in Holland that welcomed us along with BJ who put together one magical experience!

NEW YORK, NEW YORK!

NEW YORK, NEW YORK!

We received a lovely email from a fantastic family that flew from New York to specially attend our Easter Camp & the Benfica Way Clinics...

Dear Coach Tim & Co,

With this note we wanted to extend you a special thanks for inviting us to the TW Sports Easter soccer camp & "The Benfica Way" coaching / training sessions, which were organised by you.

Thank you for opening your home to us and your hospitality.  We had an amazing time thanks to you, your crew & your soon wife to be, Leanne, who tirelessly looked after us, entertained us, constantly making sure we were ok & also without forgetting your wonderful and supportive parents, thank you!

Don’t get me wrong, coach Tim, you were a brilliant entertainer as well :)  I never got tired speaking with you about football, quality of coaching, quality of play & youth development.  You & I share the same idea on starting youth development in football from an early age.  Hassan had an amazing time & experience while training at the TW Sports as well as "The Benfica Way" training sessions.

One of the special moments for Hassan was making new friends, thanks to Cameron for being there for Hassan, Luke, it was very nice to meet him as well & to all participants of TW Sports Easter soccer camp – you guys were brilliant!!  It was very nice to meet everyone & play football with!!!

“The Benfica Way” coaching / player sessions were invaluable.  We basically had "Benfica" youth coaches all to ourselves, one on one, now how often does that happen?  With that said we brought back home more knowledge, unforgettable memories & fresh new ideas.

Thank you again & in football united we stand!

Zoe Salmon has already backed our Award Winning programme saying, 'You are doing such a great job, providing such a fab facility for boys & girls of NI'.  Now Hugo Vicente of SL Benfica has echoed Zoe's words by stating in a recent presentation, 'The sooner a child is introduced to football the stronger technically they will become.  While more practice time will assist in each players development'.

Luke joined a TWSports.Org Mini Soccer Centre from an early age.  He has developed into a very talented player.  Early exposure to the ball, additional practice time, a great attitude & work ethic along with a supporting family has seen huge developments in his game.

Director of TWSports.Org, Tim Wareing, works 1-on-1 with Luke 2-3 times per week.  You can see Luke in action here.  This video was filmed August 2009 when Luke was 10. PRIVATE 1-ON-1 COACHING WITH BENFICA

PRIVATE 1-ON-1 COACHING WITH BENFICA

SL Benfica coaches, Hugo Vicente & Edgar, delivered a special private coaching class.  This was for TWSports.Org Director, Tim Wareing's private 1-on-1 students.

The session was heavily based on technical work & use of the ball.  From skills & turns to 1 v 1 duels the boys involved had a terrific session & wonderful experience.

Hugo started the session with a ball for each of the 5 children present.  Moving through a series of dribbling, skills, turns & keep ball the session then developed to concentrate on touch, decision making & speed.

This included a fantastic high speed drill that had each boy work on their touch & passing technique using the inside & then the outside of their feet.  The session then developed nicely into S.A.Q. using the speed ladder but insuring the ball was never far away.

A series of 1 v 1 drills was then introduced encouraging the player to make their move against the line defender before finishing into the net as directed by fellow coach Edgar.

The session was filmed & the boys enjoyed finishing with Crossbar Challenge.  We hope to bring you some footage through our You Tube Channel that you can subscribe to here.

We thank Hugo Vicente & Edgar for taking time out of their busy schedule to offer the 5 boys an unforgettable experience.  Not many children get the opportunity to be coached by top European coaches in their own wee country!

For more information on 1-on-1 coaching or small private group coaching contact Tim Wareing on, 077 4012 0788 or by email.

The camp was organised by UEFA A Licence Coach & TWSports.Org Director, Tim Wareing.   He was joined by Ronnie Cromie who also holds his A Licence & Coach Danny Johnson.  The Dream Team was complimented by Coach Andy & Coach Kyle.

Children were put into groups that complimented their ability & age meaning maximum development & enjoyment.  The sessions were based on the latest in European development that improved every child in attendance.  Leading to better technical ability & game understanding.

Along with the quality coaching a series of small sided games were played throughout the week.  With the elite group we focused on small sided games reflecting the Champions League games involving Barcelona & Manchester United.  This worked in well with basing the session around passing & support play in triangles for Barcelona & then the next day concentrating on the Manchester United style.  This was done through width using the wingers & speed of play.

Lunch hour included our theme days of crazy hair, design a footy top & make your own footy card day.  Along with watching some DVD's including the technical training of PSV Eindhoven.

All players perfected the 'Bergkamp' & 'Henry' in beating a defender & finishing on goal.

The week also included a Soccer Sixes tournament on the Thursday evening before the Benfica coaches visited the children & signed autographs on the Friday.

SL BENFICA REVIEW

SL BENFICA REVIEW

TWSports.Org was pleased to welcome Benfica to Northern Ireland.  Hugo Vicente & Edgar delivered quality clinics for local children & coaches, 'The Benfica Way'.

The action kicked off at the Ballymena United Showground's with clinics for children aged 5-16.  The talented Ballymena U16 team attended in the evening to receive coaching during the coaching clinic.

The clinics then travelled to Belfast to Orangefield OB.  Again sessions were provided for children aged 5-16 before the coaches clinic.  Orangefield U19's had the privilege of receiving coaching from the Benfica coaches.  Last year the same squad were coached by PSV Eindhoven, another event organised by TWSports.Org.

The sessions for children were all ball related, fun & pressurised focusing heavily on the technical side of the game that has helped produce one of the best footballers in the world, Ronaldo.

One thing that was evident throughout all the sessions was the fun that the Benfica coaches had with the children.  They really did get down to the kids level but at the same time didn't lose any quality.

The coaches clinics were fascinating too.  A presentation on Benfica's youth system & senior set up developing to how they teach their youth players the game.  Many things covered was getting rid of the silly warm ups & 'Premiership warm ups' that we see so many 'coaches' performing.  How you can lose 1 year development in the process of developing young players through 'silly warm ups'.  How the game has changed, especially the speed & endurance in the last 30 years.

After the presentations, Hugo Vicente conducted the sessions that coaches in attendance gained valuable sessions & training advice.

The weekend was a huge success.  One parent commented how his child gained more out of a 90 minute session than they would have received in 3 months from their club!

Tim Wareing commented, 'It is a pleasure to have Hugo & Edgar from Benfica with us again in Northern Ireland.  In the past year we have attracted Benfica to travel to Northern Ireland twice & PSV Eindhoven.  For these top European coaches to share their ideas & methods to all local children & coaches is amazing.  It helps continue to develop the local game & the children & coaches involved within.'

Wareing continued, 'It is a shame that so many missed the opportunity or lacked the desire to learn & develop their game understanding.  Too many people within the local game don't seem to want to better themselves.  This was proved to me by Academy coaches from an Irish League Club ignore the opportunity to watch a session led by the Benfica coaches straight after their game!'

'We had a family that flew in from New York especially to attend these courses.  Yet some people wouldn't drive (or walk!) 5 minutes down the road to attend.  Unfortunately this is one real reason why the overall standard of the local game doesn't move forward.'

'What is interesting is the thoughts from the Benfica coaches.  In terms of the facilities that they seen they were impressed.  Many junior & amateur clubs still play on sand & clay courts in Portugal.  The main differences they noticed in the game in Northern Ireland was the physical side & lower level of technical ability of the players.'

'They also seen a big culture difference in that players, especially children, were afraid to take risks & take players on.  They could immediately see why with the distraction from the 'coaches' & parents on the touch line.'

TWSports.Org would like to thank Hugo Vicente & Edgar from Benfica for sharing their knowledge & passion of the game.  Thank you to Ballymena United & Orangefield OB for the use of their fantastic facilities.  We also extend our thanks to our sponsor, Absolute Marketing.  Finally to all the children, parents & coaches that supported the event.

If you would like to receive more details of future courses please contact us by telephone, 077 4012 0788 or by email.  You can register to our You Tube page to be the first to see the footage from the clinics.  Simply click here.

1-ON-1 COACHING

1-ON-1 COACHING

My schedule is booking up fast for private 1-on-1 coaching.  My only available day during the week is a Thursday along with limited availability on weekends.  Obviously from the spring I can accept more children on a 1-to-1 basis.

I am very excited about starting work today with a new child.  It's something that I enjoy a lot & the progress that Luke has made is outstanding.  Luke continues his sessions with me after starting back in May.

He currently is playing for the National County Down Squad & attends the Liverpool Academy based here in Belfast.  A number of high profile clubs continue to watch his progress.

We filmed the footage from our 1-on-1 sessions & you can view them by clicking here on video 1 or video 2.  This is footage from August; Luke's development has come on even more in this short space of time!

Why 1-on-1 Coaching?

It's amazing how extra coaching, 1-on-1, a good attitude & having fun can improve a player.  Add in goal setting & You Tube & you have a great, motivated player!

1-on-1 coaching isn't the first thing on parent's lists in Northern Ireland but I feel it should be if you really want your child to improve their technical ability.  If your child struggles with maths or reading you will look for extra classes or tuition.

If a child falls behind or is weaker than the 'big kids' the youth 'coaches' & 'Managers' of the team leave them out.  They offer the last 5 minutes of games if they are lucky.  The result?  The child falls further behind & eventually leaves the game.

So, what do I work on during a 1-on-1 session?  I love to concentrate on the technical side of the game.  Skills & tricks, touch, passing & finishing.  I also throw in a lot of fun activities too.  Repetition is good but I also like to include some fresh ideas.

From the skills grid & PSV warm up to the 10 team mates passing game.  We then focus on our mini pitch & mini goals & undertake first touch, control the Raul spoon, finish & pass through hoop game.  A series of finishing games we have introduced along with fun games like lob the keeper & crossbar challenge.

So many games that we use & work on.  We always finish on the hoop game!  I stand one side, Luke on the other & we both have a number of balls.  His dad then rolls a set of hoops down the hill & we have to shoot / pass the ball through them.  Great fun to finish the night on!

It is a testament to the work he puts in.  But we don't finish on the training pitch.  Luke has homework to do, set himself goals & research using the web.

We set homework together but he can gain more sessions & information from TrainingSoccer.Org & TWAcademy.Org.  This includes training sessions, diet, fitness, preparation & psychology.

We have also set goals from when we started.  It's important all players have long term goals to aim for but essential they have short term goals that they can achieve along the way & something to aim for.  We simply used a blank bit of paper & listed strengths & weaknesses.  How we would improve on our (notice I always use 'our' as we work together as a team) weaknesses.  We then have short term goals like playing x amount of games creating goals or scoring goals.  We also have improvements on keepie ups.  But you always need to be realistic & insure the short term goals are achievable.  If Luke can do 30 keepie ups it's better for him to target 35 than 40 as his next goal as he can see & touch it easier than a larger amount.

At the same time if he targets to set up 6 goals over the course of February you have to remind him that he can only provide a great pass or cross but the forward may not score it.  So you have to be realistic & positive.  The long term goal?  Well this can be play for an English Club side, Northern Ireland, anything!  But if the individual doesn't put the work in I can question him as can his parents.

Finally we always name tricks & games after players or teams.  I also encourage Luke to look up You Tube to see them in action (my good friend Hugo Vicente from SL Benfica does this with his players).  This adds to a child's mind & visualises it better, often exciting them & motivating them even more.

In our last session we adapted a session to finish like Bergkamp.  I'm sure you remember his great goal for Arsenal against Newcastle?  The ball played into him & he spun it one way & rolled off the defender the other to score one of the great goals!  Check it out hereWhat a player!

Book your session direct with me now!  Phone, 077 4012 0788 or email!

I can improve YOUR child's technical ability and offer great opportunities that they wouldn't receive anywhere else!

Tim Wareing, Academy Director (UEFA A Licence)

We seek to develop the all round player, providing the technical basis for football excellence together with the need to understand the importance of acceptable social behaviour, in order to succeed as a potential professional player.

The Academy will offer each player;

FOOTBALL UNITES WORLD

FOOTBALL UNITES WORLD

What better way to spend New Year's Day than feature in a short film at Titanic Quarter.  Colin Graham, from Bangor, wanted to feature children playing football in a real iconic area of Belfast.  What better venue than the ship yard!

The idea is that one of the boys will control a pass hit from kid in Brazil & then drive a pass to kid in Calcutta!

This is a very exciting project that asks people from all around the world to film in a famous area of their city & then put it all together to have children playing football.

Showing that football unites the world regardless of religion, gender, cultural background, war or poverty.

We hope to feature un-edit & edit versions on our You Tube Channel.

STORMONT

STORMONT

Tim Wareing attended the SkillsActive 5th Anniversary Event at Stormont Parliament Buildings.  It was hosted by Sir Reg Empey, MLA, Minister for Employment & Learning.

SkillsActive is the sector skills council for the active leisure & learning industry.  SkillsActive is based throughout Northern Ireland, England, Scotland & Wales.

It is a programme that we are happy to get involved in like the involvement we have with the Princes Trust.  Although we have forced limitations thanks to some of the Councils around Northern Ireland.

A number of Council's will not allow our Award Winning programme to operate in their Leisure Centres, or charge over £100 per week hire for ONE 45 minute slot!  In the worst economy for over 100 years you would think we would receive support from the so called powers that be.

During July & August we offered a number of positions for free lance coaches.  We had over 100 applications.  This ranged from experienced coaches right down to school leavers & the un-employed.  We catered positions for all.  Although due to the fact that Belfast City Council do not support our programme (by 'support' we mean accept a slot in one of many Leisure Centres that are currently losing money) it resulted in less positions being made available as there was not the hours available.

The SkillsActive event was set in one of Northern Ireland's most famous landmarks.  A number of high profile speakers & guests were invited along.  Although apart from Cathy Mullan, (Health Promotion Commissioner, Public Health Agency) it was just a glorified thank you function.  The kind involving a speech, thank you, photo for the paper, done.  Cathy spoke about today's children not being able to play like we as parents enjoyed growing up.  The huge problem of child obesity - A NUMBER OF PARENTS WILL OUTLIVE THEIR CHILDREN!  Finally touching on the mental health problems that will face a huge percentage of our children in the next 20 years.

These are 3 topics that you will find we reported on if you search the archived news in TrainingSoccer.Org over the past year.

But while so many speakers concentrated on the big 'love in' Cathy actually spoke about facts that there is no way of avoiding.  It is just a shame that the Council's from the country in Europe with the highest death rate from heart disease will not support a programme that brings toddlers from 2.5 along with their parents to football & the importance of living a healthy lifestyle.

Unfortunately no one was around to speak to about the above.  Perhaps if a camera was about they would have happily 'staged' a conversation to get that all important picture in the press of, 'I care.'

THE BENFICA WAY DVD

THE BENFICA WAY DVD

TWSports.Org has just released its third DVD.  This DVD captures the sessions & seminar from 'The Benfica Way'.  Hugo Vicente from the SL Benfica Academy visited TWSports during August.  His seminar & sessions were captured & put together in this professional DVD set.

If you want to hear & watch how the most successful Portuguese Club side develop their players this is a must buy!  This acts as the perfect Christmas present whether your child took part in the sessions, your child has an interest in football or you are a coach.

I can honestly say I enjoyed watching the DVD back nearly as much as being at the course itself.  We have produced a training session DVD.  Although if you want to capture the full seminar we have produced a second DVD to feature both!

Watch & listen to how SL Benfica produces their players through technical & pressurised drills.  Hugo Vicente talks about the time wasted doing silly warm ups & brings interesting facts to play with regard to how speed has changed in the game & how they go about improving it.

This DVD is a must see!  You can watch a teaser clip here.  Limited edition so be sure to order here!

SL Benfica & Hugo Vicente will return to Belfast in April 2010.  Be sure to register your interest now!  Email or telephone, 077 4012 0788.

SL BENFICA SUCCESS

SL BENFICA SUCCESS

Hugo Vicente & Victor from SL Benfica flew in to Northern Ireland to deliver an elite training session for local children in conjunction with TWAcademy.Org.

Dundela FC kindly opened up Wilgar Park for the clinic to take place.  The weather was even kind to us, sunshine the whole day.  Although on arrival Victor had to jump back into the van as he was that cold after leaving the sunshine & 30 degree heat in Portugal.  Hugo on the other hand had climatised with a week in Scotland!

Hugo & Victor then took to the pitch to provide a coaching session for the children.  After introductions & a brief insight into Portuguese football the action kicked off.  What was evident throughout the entire session was use of the ball & a great repore with children.

The session was full of energy, passion, personality & of course knowledge.  The children worked hard but always had a smile of their face.  The session featured heavily on the technical side of the game but was pressurised.

Some of the feedback we received;

'Tim, just a short note to congratulate you on a most fantastic day today.  Both my boys had a great time & they were extremely inspired by the tuition given all day.  You are definitely in the right job as all the kids adore you & all your efforts are appreciated.'

Murray Erskine

'Hello Tim, we just wanted to thank you for such a brilliant footie day yesterday with the Benfica coaches.  Reece thoroughly enjoyed himself & it was great to watch too.  We hope Hugo & Victor will come back again someday, they were fantastic!'

Gina Everett

'Tim, will you pass on my thanks to Hugo & Victor.  Ryan really enjoyed it this morning & I thought the session was fantastic!'

Kerrie McCrory

'Mate just wanted to say thanks for today.  Nathan had a real good day.  Thanks also to Hugo & Victor who made it enjoyable for us as parents too.  Nice to see kids having fun.  Cheers mate.'

Drew Kerr

The clinic took place at Dundela FC on Sunday 16 August.  The children that attended not only received 3 excellent hours of coaching from SL Benfica Academy coaches but returned to take part in the session for the coaches' clinic in the afternoon!

Coaching is changing, is your child receiving elite coaching based around modern new techniques set in a fun environment?  If not sign up to TWAcademy.Org.  Your child will receive great opportunities while still playing for their club!

Children registered with the TWSports.Org Group have been coached by PSV Eindhoven in April & now SL Benfica in August!  Our next step is to travel to one of these great clubs & play a match.  Do you want to be part of that?  Email me now!

You can purchase a DVD that will cover Hugo & Victor's sessions from the clinic & also include the coaching clinic & presentation.  For more information contact Tim Wareing on, 077 4012 0788 or by email.

STAFF COACHING

STAFF COACHING

In this game you never stop learning & what a pleasure it was to have PSV Eindhoven's, Martien Pennings fly into Belfast to be the guest of TWSports.Org.  On top of that to have top Dutch coach, Bert-Jan (BJ) Heijmans & Paul Cooper from Give Us Back Our Game we were guaranteed an action packed week of learning & exchanging ideas with each other.

From Radio interviews to coaching clinics & from Easter Fun Weeks to a SoccerSixes.Org tournament the week had everything!  The base would be a lovely cottage set between Dundonald & Comber.  What a base to talk football from morning to night & much more relaxing & personal than a hotel room.

The main bonus was that the TWSports.Org coaching team gained firsthand knowledge from coaches from one of the best youth development programmes in the world.  Everyone learnt from having these specialist coaches in the Northern Ireland from our experienced coaches' right down to our young coaches.

As a coach, a player & even a football supporter what more could you want than an action packed week of football?

After Martien's arrival into Belfast it was a quick transfer to BBC for an interview with Radio Ulster.  BJ & Paul arrived soon after before transferring to the cottage.  We were then joined by our resident camera man who would capture the week & produce a DVD.

Martien was first up for his clinic on Sunday at Orangefield FC.  He attracted coaches from London, Scotland & right across Northern Ireland.  We had a great mix of coaching abilities from young coaches through to professional coaches.  He gave us all an insight into grassroots football in Holland through to the blue print of PSV Eindhoven's Academy set up.  We were also lucky enough to watch a DVD made by the Technical Director from PSV of skills used by the players at the Academy.

A great session on small sided games was enjoyed from Give Us Back Our Game founder, Paul Cooper.  Bert-Jan Heijmans then provided a fantastic clinic on his Magic Rectangle.

Not only did our local coaches learn so much from these clinics but local children had the opportunity to play in one of the best Irish League grounds, Mourneview Park, & be coached by the Dutch!

For more details about the DVD made or for further details about TWSports.Org & the new Academy contact Tim Wareing now on, 077 4012 0788 or by email.

EASTER SUCCESS

EASTER SUCCESS

Children across Northern Ireland had the opportunity to play at Glenavon's Mourneview Park & at the Civil Service grounds in Dundonald this Easter.

5-16 year olds enjoyed age related games delivered by our excellent team of coaches along with having some great Dutch coaches' work with them.  At the same time footage was shot for a TWSports.Org DVD!

Along with top quality coaching, small sided games were used across the centres.  The European Cup had a little extra excitement around it as each team was given 5 million to spend on the European Player of the Year or they could buy their very own coach!  Watch out for these new methods being brought into our Mini Soccer classes!

If you missed out you can sign up to one of our highly successful Mini Soccer classes that operate across the province.  Contact Tim Wareing for further details on, 077 4012 0788 or by email.

The TWAcademy.Org will launch in May for elite coaching & development.  Children can now apply for a trial.  Invitation letters will be sent out this week.  More details can be found from the website.

Advantage Young Business Award Winner 2009

Advantage Young Business Award Winner 2009

Thirty year old Tim Wareing of Castlereagh based TWSports.Org Mini Soccer Centres, has been recognised by Advantage NI and Invest Northern Ireland for being amongst the most successful and inspirational young entrepreneurs in the Castlereagh area.  Funded by Invest NI, Advantage NI celebrates the spirit of enterprise that is alive and kicking in young people aged 16-30.

TWSports offers children the opportunity to play football in a pressure free environment, and welcomes children from as young as two to sixteen to join in.  The business has been extended to reach children and coaches around the world by utilising their web based products.

Football has always been a passion and hobby for Tim Wareing.  Though it was after he completed his football qualifications and observed the lack of youth development in sport and football that he decided to put all his interests and energy into starting up his own business.

Tim’s business has a strong customer base and he believes this is down to the fact that parents know that their children will meet new friends, have fun and develop their skills with highly qualified coaches at an affordable price.  This Easter will be an exciting time for the soccer centre as TWSports welcomes Martien Pennings of Dutch side PSV Eindhoven to deliver a coaching clinic for Northern Ireland coaches and children.

Sharon Polson of Invest NI’s Entrepreneurship Development Team, said: “By supporting initiatives which encourage our young entrepreneurs to further develop their ideas and grow their businesses, we can help increase the number and quality of locally-owned businesses, create wealth and strengthen the Northern Ireland economy.

"Many local young people have started successful businesses in recent years. These entrepreneurs are role models and it is important that they are recognised for their achievements."

As TWSports goes from strength to strength Tim is still not content with stopping here, as he sets his sights high for the future of his business - just as any entrepreneur would!    He intends to continue the high standards he has set for child and coach development in Northern Ireland but he also aims to franchise his product further afield.  He would even one day love to own his own indoor arena.  With ambition like this it is easy to see why TWSports has been awarded an Advantage Young Business Award.

If like Tim, you are under thirty one and are running your own business, or, if you are simply interested in finding out more about starting your own business, Advantage NI wants to hear from you. Advantage NI provides start up support and guidance specifically for young people aged 16-30 through a suite of programmes including Business Boot Camp, Ignite, The Big Idea and The Advantage Young Business Awards and what’s more, they’re all free. BELFAST BOY

BELFAST BOY

The following article appeared in world wide coaching magazine, Soccer Coaching International. The article is written by Paul Cooper from the 'Give us back our Game' Campaign.

Football in Northern Ireland has been on the up in recent years with the international side claiming some big scalps at Windsor Park. Spain, Sweden and of course England have all been beaten and they have been close to qualifying for a major event, something they have not achieved since the heady days of the 1982 and 1986 World Cups. David Healy, their prolific striker, also became the first player to score thirteen goals in a European Championship qualifying campaign. But what was happening at grassroots and in children's football across Northern Ireland? Paul Cooper from SoccerCoachingInternational went on a four day fact finding mission.

By: Paul Cooper

Tim Wareing

I had met a young coach from Belfast called Tim Wareing who made an immediate impact on me both in terms of a coach and person. When Tim invited me over to see the work he was doing at youth level, I was already on my way to the airport before the phone was set down. Tim played for Saintfield United before moving onto Agape to play under Sam Watterson. It was the late Watterson that got him involved in coaching and it was under his guidance that Tim set up Castlereagh Colts which was the youth development side at Agape. During this time Wareing got his UEFA B Licence and fixed up friendly fixtures with the like of Glasgow Rangers, Leeds and Fulham. Tim has always aimed high as he always wants the best for his charges.

Later Tim joined Lisburn Distillery as youth coach before being appointed Academy Director at the club and a couple of years ago obtained his A Licence. The young coach was very keen to do more football in the community and set up mini soccer centres across Northern Ireland through the coaching company he set up called TWSports.Org with the result that now hundreds of smiling boys & girls have the opportunity to play for fun.

East Belfast

This was my first visit to Northern Ireland although I already felt as if I knew it, as while growing up it was never off our screens at tea-time. The early evening news was full of many familiar names and places, though sadly nearly all were linked to the troubles. I was staying with Tim, his partner and their children in East Belfast, only a few hundred yards from where George Best lived and where George's father, Dickie still lives in the family home on Burren Way. Tim drove me around the Cregagh Estate, and to see the field and streets where the great man played as a child was inspiring. A couple of nights later Tim organised a World Cup 4 v 4 on the estate with the local children. With the floodlights on the Astro pitch, lighting up the autumn sky and with George Best's mural looming out from the side of an adjacent house, you felt that the spirit of the man was still living inside these local kids from the Cregagh, playing with smiles as wide as the River Lagan that flows through the city.

For several days I followed Tim and his coaches around Northern Ireland, to Belfast, Larne, Carrickfergus and Lisburn to name just a few places. We visited schools, play groups and leisure centres there with young kids from 5-13 playing football. The ingredients were simple, lots of fun, lots of touches of the ball and skills. Everywhere we went the children were hungry to play, trying moves and feints without a care in the world. The environment was so positive and the children were encouraged to show what they could do and express themselves at all time. Every six weeks they have a World Cup competition which the children love. As well as these mini soccer centres Tim also runs Toddler Soccer sessions for the really young ones, where they learn to fall in love with the game.

For the more gifted players there is the opportunity to join the Lisburn Distillery Academy. Tim and the coaches at the club have been very careful to create a culture of skilful play and creativity at the Academy. Children are encouraged to play the game how it should be played. The training I saw was full of inventive play with players taking on opponents in many 1 v 1 situations and neat passages of passing play with good movement off the ball. I don't remember ever visiting a club or district and see so many happy kids, but Tim's love for the game is incredibly infectious.

Tim's achievements in stimulating youth soccer in Northern Ireland are quite staggering and with the foundations being laid deep, the omens, (as long as he gets the support he deserves) look promising.

DUTCH CLASS

DUTCH CLASS

One word to sum up my trip to Holland & the Dutch people, 'quality!'

The trip from start to finish was a huge success & very enjoyable. To see a different football culture is a fantastic experience & goes to show how far we really are behind in this country.

Our week started in Amsterdam with a 2 day visit to Ajax. We enjoyed the tour of the Amsterdam ArenA & then took in the first team training. I approached one of the coaches to enquire if we could come in & observe the training. He immediately responded, 'yes'. A prime example of how accommodating & welcoming the Dutch are.

The facilities are second to none, maybe something you would expect at a top European side but not what you would expect at Amateur Clubs - more on that soon!

We viewed the sessions & took some video footage. We also got to meet a number of the first team players including Edgar Davids. After training we took a short stroll over to the famous Ajax Academy. Again facilities to be envy of.

Our trip then took us south to our Hotel based near Eindhoven. Over the 4 days we visited top Amateur Clubs, Geldrop AEK & vv Schijndel. These clubs would be the equivalent of Northern Ireland's Premier Amateur League teams but that is were the comparisons end. The facilities & presentations included the following;

  • Approximately a dozen full size grass pitches at each venue owned by the Club.
  • The main pitch included a stand & seating.
  • 2 x 3rd generation pitches with floodlights.
  • Each Club had between 40-60 teams!
  • Bar & restaurant.
  • Balcony / upstairs viewing lounge.
  • Over 40 volunteers working on a daily basis.
  • Amateur Clubs inform professional teams of any youth talent to progress the child.
  • Clubs & Coaches more concerned on youth players' development & progression in football rather than holding them back.
  • They work with the professional Clubs.
  • Councils support them! One of the Clubs received 40,000 euros last year.
  • Due to having over 900 members they will build another 3rd generation pitch.

We were lucky enough to watch the PSV first team training & view their terrific facilities. We also received a presentation from their Academy Director, the same presentation that was given to ex England Manager Steve McClaren the day before! This was another example of how open & friendly the Dutch are.

We had time on the Saturday to watch William II Tilburg take on PSV U17's. After the game we had a presentation from Martien Pennings who eats, drinks & sleeps football! Also Harrie Biemans, a young coach at William II & Harry Drummond a young English man playing in Holland. That night we had the pleasure of having the two Harry's out with us. It was fascinating speaking to them about football in Holland. I honestly would love the opportunity to work in Holland in the future.

It does seem a world apart when you receive the support from the local football authorities & Councils along with the Amateur Clubs. Top grade facilities & volunteers at hand is another fantastic bonus that as a Coach you just want to be involved in.

I feel that people in this country are on their own agenda at times. Although I'm lucky to work with some great coaches at my Club & have a good team of Coaches at TWSports.Org. You just wonder why some people are really involved in youth football when you see them behave in such a manner on a Saturday morning. Why parents continue sending their children to certain Clubs to be abused & subjected to a poor education in football?

I feel that Councils & our Football Authorities should be doing more to develop & support youth groups. Instead they put people in positions on huge salaries & they get complacent. Then they do what they can to stop others developing & offering football (see the report on Belfast City Council on ToddlerSoccer.Org.) Yet in Holland they support & provide top class facilities from grass roots level.

Maybe that's why they have their country in the European Championships this summer & unfortunately why there will be no home nations.

My thanks must go to B.J. & Paul for the invite & their hard work. Also an extended thank you to all the coaches & friends that I had the pleasure of meeting.

UMBRO CHALLENGE CURTIS

UMBRO CHALLENGE CURTIS

Lisburn Distillery Under 11 player, Curtis Ritchie, recently took part in the Umbro Diamond Challenge. Curtis was selected from a TWSports.Org Summer Camp to represent Lisburn Distillery Academy. Curtis has supplied us with his story from the day.

"I travelled by car to get to the Olympia Leisure Centre. We walked into a gym to get into our teams. I was selected for the yellow team & Peter Thompson took my team.

We did lots of things like shooting, dribbling, 2 v 2's, agility & other things. I scored six out of ten shots past the Cliftonville goalkeeper. Philip Matthews was also their.

When I was teamed up in the 2 v 2's we won all of them. The day was very good so far, my mum & dad were there to watch me. We took a break & had some water to drink. We took the break for five minutes or so. We went to do some more stuff & then the day finished.

We all sat down & an Umbro director announced who won. He said that it was very tight & the red team won & my team came second. We got a free Umbro bag & got our picture taken.

It was a very fun day & I would like to go back next year. I also received a certificate from the IFA."

CHILD PROTECTION COURSE

CHILD PROTECTION COURSE

All TWSports.Org coaches & Lisburn Distillery Academy coaches attended & completed their Child Protection course on Monday 12 November at the New Grosvenor Stadium.

The course, run by Jim Grattan of the Irish Football Association, is essential for all coaches & volunteers to attend & update every 3 years. The course was delivered professionally & important issues were covered in a tactful way.

TWSports.Org recognises they have an important role to protect children & ensure that their staff are properly trained. Coaches & staff also have to complete a background check before working with children.

We feel by putting this into practice we can only improve the safety of how your child will be looked after.

Lisburn Distillery is one of the few Irish League Club's to ensure all their staff complete this very important course. This is one of the guidelines set out to be considered for the new invitational Irish Premier League.

We would like to thank Irwin Moore, child protection officer for Lisburn Distillery, for setting up the course. Also thanks to Jim Grattan of the IFA for delivering the course.

GIVE US BACK OUR GAME UPDATE

GIVE US BACK OUR GAME UPDATE

With kind permission Paul Cooper from GUBOG has allowed us to feature his write up from his recent visit to Northern Ireland. A full report will be featured in the magazine, Soccer Coaching International, in the New Year.

"If children grew up according to early indications, we would have nothing but geniuses"

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Belfast Boy

I first met Tim Wareing at the Repton seminar and since then have kept in touch. When he invited me over for four days to Belfast to show what he is doing for the campaign and for youth football as a whole in Northern Ireland, I jumped at the chance.

I stayed with Tim, his partner Leanne, and their family at their house on the same Cregagh estate where George Best was born and where his father still lives.

Tim has been a great supporter of the campaign and had organised 4v4 GUBOG sessions in all of his soccer schools across the country.

Tim and Leanne had taken me on an open top bus ride around Belfast, which took in all the trouble spots that had become so familiar from T.V. To contrast that with watching hundreds of children playing for fun from both sides of the community was truly inspiring.

The work done by this young man to promote football for all in Northern Ireland is the best work I have come across and his passion for the game has rubbed off on all the kids who play the most breathtaking football with smiles as wide as the River Lagan.

I saw hundreds of kids play at his TW Sports centres and also at Lisburn Distillery where he is the Academy Director.

The highlight was a Friday night session at the Cregagh Community Centre 200 yards from where George Best lived and within the shadow of one of the murals painted of the great man.

Tim is planning further events and we will work with him to organise a major event in Northern Ireland this summer.

"I have travelled extensively as both a football coach and writer and have found no one to match the passion Tim Wareing has for the game. His secret is that he has a deep knowledge about coaching but also a deep knowledge about children and how they develop. Very few coaches have both.

What Tim has achieved in Northern Ireland is nothing short of astonishing and the smiles on the children's faces are testimony to his outstanding work."

Paul Cooper - Founder of Give Us Back Our Game

We have the most inclusive package available that will have a varied & mixed market audience for your business, i.e. we operate football from 3 year olds to 65 year olds!

HELP KEEP AVONIEL MINI SOCCER OPEN!

HELP KEEP AVONIEL MINI SOCCER OPEN!

Those that tuned into the Nolan Radio Show (5 July) would have heard our problem with the new charges being implemented by Belfast City Council.

Our Mini Soccer Centre at Avoniel has been operating for 4 years. Belfast City Council is now introducing private coaching fees. They now propose that each child that attends must pay 2 to Belfast City Council as well as TWSports.Org continuing to pay for the pitch.

This is forcing our Mini Soccer Centre to close. This is very disappointing as this Centre welcomes all boys & girls aged 5-13. Many walk to the centre & don't have access to a vehicle so will lose their weekly football sessions if we are forced to close the centre down by Belfast City Council.

This is crazy in a day & age where Council's know their problems in:

  • Child obesity
  • Anti social behaviour
  • Restricted activities for kids
  • & this is a service that allows children to make new friends & play football in a safe environment
  • Children from this group have also been selected for Lisburn Distillery Academy

Belfast City Council is forcing TWSports.Org to shut down a successful & popular children's activity programme.

We want your views & support, email us.

INTERNATIONAL 4 v 4 FUN DAY

INTERNATIONAL 4 v 4 FUN DAY

In association with, 'Give Us Back Our Game', Lisburn Distillery Academy held a 4 v 4 Fun Day on Sunday 17 June.

13 teams took part from our 2000 age group through to the 1997's. 2 separate tournaments took place. 50 boys & their parents enjoyed a great day of football.

In 2 hours no fewer than 262 goals were scored by all teams. Some fantastic football & skills were on display from all age groups.

Lisburn Distillery Manager, Paul Kirk & defender Stuart Thompson were present to support the event. They took the time to speak to children & parents while signing autographs & having their picture taken.

The event took place world wide with events happening across the U.K. & Ireland, the U.S.A., Canada, Australia, Sweden, India, Brunei & the Philippines.

Give Us Back Our Game was formed six months ago to highlight the problems of touchline behaviour in children's football & to create a more child and player centred environment through small sided games, including 4 v 4's.

The key issues are:

  • To give children, coaches, parents & teachers & anyone else involved in grassroots football a voice by lobbying governments, associations & other organisations in order to bring about change.
  • To highlight the rising 'win at all costs' culture that is slowly destroying the beautiful game.
  • To give the children back their game by including ALL children, making it fun & giving them the opportunity to 'play'.
  • To bring back the 'spirit' of the game & fair play.

The main thing that we want to hear is children's voices, calling, shouting, laughing & talking. They will play fun 4 v 4 & small sided games & take responsibility for 'their' game by refereeing their own matches.

Tim Wareing, event organiser, added, 'What a great day. 262 goals scored in 2 hours football! The children played some great football. We play small sided games throughout the Academy. We can see the develop in each individual. They have more touches on the ball & make more decisions while playing in all different positions. Our kids always play with smiles on their faces & are not afraid to try anything. Our philosophy is to let the kids play'.

If you played or spectated at the 4 v 4 day please forward your thoughts to, info@twsports.org.

Thank you to all the parents who assisted & supported the day. Also to Paul Kirk & Stuart Thompson for their attendance. A big thank you to the coaching team for their hard work throughout the season.

We look forward to continuing our support to, 'Give Us Back Our Game'.

PAUL KIRK BACKS TWSports.Org

PAUL KIRK BACKS TWSports.Org

Lisburn Distillery Manager Paul Kirk has backed TWSports.Org Mini Soccer Centres' programme & Head Coach Tim Wareing. The Irish Premier League Club has formed a link with TWSports.Org & Tim Wareing will now look to develop an Academy for the Whites.

'As Manager of Lisburn Distillery I am delighted to have formed a link with TWSports.Org & in particular Tim Wareing.

From the many Mini Soccer Centres currently run by TWSports.Org, boys & girls will be selected to join our Development Centres which will be set up by Tim Wareing.

Here boys & girls will receive expert coaching to further enhance their football talents. The prospect of such a venture is exciting to say the least & I look forward to participating at these Centres when they start.'

BARCA REPORT!

BARCA REPORT!

Tim Wareing enjoyed 5 days at FC Barcelona watching training sessions from youth teams through to senior team level. He was also shown round the Camp Nou & was present to see them lift the Spanish League title against Espanyol.

Tim Wareing said, "The game at the Camp Nou was the highlight of the trip. 110,000 people watched the derby game between Barca & Espanyol. The celebrations after the game were unbelievable. From my seat in the 2nd row, I was beside the sub benches, & was close enough to smell the freshly cut grass, hear the players talk & smell the champagne during the celebrations!"

The main reason for the trip was to exchange ideas & to see the training methods implemented in Europe. "The set up, as you would imagine, was simply astounding. Their junior stadium which hosts training sessions & the 'B' team is a 20,000 all-seater stadium! I've come away with some fresh ideas to put into practice & all bodes well towards the creation of the Lisburn Distillery Development Centres." Tim Wareing.
